I have a new Logitech Pro9000 webcam. I chat on Yahoo Messenger. When I plug my webcam in, the picture comes up for a second or less, then it freezes and completely disappears....EVERY TIME. I tried it on my work computer and it worked perfectly, so I know the camera is ok. My system is as follows:Copying from "My Computer" system properties I have:Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3Intel(R)Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz2.39 GHz, 512 MB of RAMOn the front of the CPU tower is "DELL Dimension 4550"These are the steps I have taken so far and the responses I have received to those steps:1. I have called Logitech twice and gotten no satisfaction. One tech told me the camera was junk. The other tech said I may need "hardware acceleration" or a new "video card driver" or something about an "ms codecx", whatever that is!Rank: Wiz Rating: 84.91% , 1735 votesHello. I recommend updating the drivers and if needed, re-install the webcam software or use a different frame-rate or buffer setting if applicable. 2. I'm not even close to thinking about resembling a computer expert. I know just enough to get myself in trouble!I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software and that didn't work. That was pretty easy. However, I don't know the first thing about drivers or frame-rate or buffer....... is this something that a lay-person could understand enough to do? And if so, how do I begin?Rank: Guru Rating: 91.60% , 85 votesLinda, it is the video card at your home computer. It is processing the input and trying to push it out over the WWW. It is overloading the card and freezing. Maybe a faster broadband service may help in the getting the signal-out part. Most of the time when we buy a home computer we do not think of what we may do with it down the line. Then we try to do a different process and it does not perform the same. So a new video card, and a faster BB service, should fix this.3. I have taken my computer to the "hospital" three times. Once I even took every one of my peripherals with me (printer, webcam, speakers, mike, etc, etc, etc). They kept the computer and all the components for 3 days, put it thru extensive "stress tests" and all three times they could find "nothing wrong" with the CPU or any of the peripherals. Each time I asked specifically about the video card and each time I was told the card was fine and adequate for my computer. The last time I took it in, I asked if they would just put a new video card in, I didn't care about the cost. I was told they would do it, but could almost guarantee it would make no difference. So I did NOT have them put a new card in. They also told me that I have more than sufficient memory, etc, to run the webcam. There said they could NOT find any reason why it would not work. You mentioned faster broadband. I have a DSL line dedicated to the computer. I don't even have a home phone, so nothing else is interfering. I don't really understand what broadband is. How would I get a faster one?Rank: Guru Rating: 87.85% , 61 votesFirst uninstall your camera driver from computer. Then reinstall then check. Also uninstall yahoo messenger and then re-install .Sometimes virus problem creates this issue so scan your computer with updated antivirus.Let me know if you need more assistance.Thanks4. During this ordeal, I have also uninstalled (from the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs) and reinstalled Yahoo Messenger twice with no success. I have 2 anti-virus programs, 1 anti-Malware program, and 2 anti-spyware programs which I update and run almost every weekend. What do I do NOW??? Thanks, Linda
