If the owner's manual doesn't cover it and there's no obvious cover on the side or rear, you'll have to remove the outer wrapper.

See these files:

The light is usually located on the right side in the air duct attached to the magnetron or on the top of the oven cavity.

Most bulbs can be matched up at hardware stores, home improvement centers, and places like Wal-Mart or even large grocery stores.

Some use halogen lamps. If so, you must not touch the new one with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

For many brands, you can find handy exploded views and order parts by model number here.

You'll want to replace it using these simple instructions.

  1. 1 Make sure the bulb is actually burned out. Confirm the oven is plugged in and that a circuit breaker is not tripped.
  2. Step 2 Look for the manual to determine what size bulb is required. Most use a 40 watt appliance bulb. If you can not find the manual, then buy a bulb to replace it after you take out the old one.
  3. Step 3 Confirm that the oven is not on. Allow it to cool to room temperature if it has recently been used.
  4. Step 4 Open the door and use a flashlight to light the area where the bulb is located. Do not put weight on the door itself, but go in at an angle or sideways.
  5. Step 5 Find the shield or cover over the bulb, gently pull or twist it off. Some glass covers are surrounded by a wire clip or a ring that is screwed in to the back.
  6. Step 6 Gently remove either the wire clip or ring. Since the cover is most likely glass, be cautious. Unscrew the entire glass cover similar to a jar lid in older versions of ovens. Then repeat process if there is more than one bulb.

Bad door switch. Look for burnt terminals on one of the door switches. Replace the switch and cut off the burnt terminals and splice on new ones.

Maytag microwave suddenly stopped working, overheated, nothing was cooking.

It is more than likely the magnetron is fried, to replace fuse! unplug microwave oven, remove top, "several screws" look to the right to the keypad control board, look down to a printed circuit board, clipped fuse should be near by, pop it out and replace with same current rating, assemble before testing, "lethal voltages present"

Microwave is 6 months old. clock won't light up. when i try to set cooking time the inside starts making a clicking sound and a light flashes in the top right inside

Sounds like the waveguide cover has been contaminated with food that has carbonised and burning.
Call a Whirlpool repair agent and get the waveguide cover replaced.
They need to be kept clean and leaving the door open after cooking helps to dry the moisture out in the cavity. Making it last longer.

Why would my microwave no longer heat or cook?

micro waves use a tube inside that generates micro waves and like a light bulb they eventually blow out. the tube is not considered replaceable and cheaper to just get new unit.

Everything on our microwave still works( Clock, lights, fan) except it will no longer heat anything you put in it

HI. in most cases, this will lead to a failed Heating device(magnetron tube). It would be wise to check the Magnetron cutoff fuse to be sure of its integrity. if the fuse is blown, simply replace it. if the fuse continues to show continuity, replace the magnetron.

(((The fuse is located inside the unit along side the magnetron)))

No heating, turntable does not turn, but clock & lights work.

Check to make sure the plastic on the shelve holders or tuntable guide did not wear and expose metal. If these holders or brackets are wore and exposed metal it shorted out your micro wave. They need to be replaced and a fuse needs to be replaced inside the control panel,

Same Problem - Suddenly Died ~2yrs old, very light use.

Probably a fuse inside the unit. Can be caused by overheating or by door switches not working properly.

Light no longer working

Most microwave ovens I have worked on the procedure is...
UNPLUG the microwave.
Remove the screws (along the bottom sides and the back of the oven) holding the the outer cover to the unit.
Remove the outer cover and the lightbulb will be visible.
Unscrew the bulb and head to the hardware store for a replacement.
Reverse above procedures.
Hope this helps.

Replace Microwave Light

Apparently there's a flaw in the design. My light has gone out/ been changed roughly evry 9 months. No longer under warranty and cost to have someone come in and replace is outrageous. Light bulb is located on top of the oven. You need to remove the top to get at it. Looked fairly easy.
