Unable to Upgrade SD Card

MY Tomtom GO 510 came with a 256Mb card and despite my having erased all the unecessary files (foreign languages etc) the card is full and can't take any more updates. I bought a blank 512Mb card, formatted it, backed up all my data, made a copy of the files on the old card and copied these to the new card. When I switch on I am asked for the Activation Code which contains 3 groups of 5 characters with 2 spaces in between. The GO 'keypad' has no space key so I input the code as a continuous string only for it not to be recognised. Hence the GO won't work with the new card and I have to go back to the old full one. Any ideas please??

Hi Shep 75 and thanks for the suggestion. In fact I eventually got some help from TomTom's helpline who sent me a file called 'Clear Flash'. Run this with the Go plugged in and it clears the problem. I've now got a 512MB card running beautifully!

Hi there, we just had the same problem, if you plug your device back into your pc and open tom tom home, click "operate device" you can activate your tom tom that way and use your pc keypad to put in your code therefore able to use the space key.

Won't start, seems to be a problem with the card

If you have an SD card installed then
Remove the SD card from the tomtom
The card may need to be formatted properly first or re-formatted.
Formatting is better done in a card reader.
There are differing views but this method has always worked for me.
Insert the card in the reader,. Using my computer or windows explorer right click on it and select format
select FAT32 as the files system
Now connect the tomtom to the pc but don't let tomtom home run.
Exit TomTom Home if need be.
You now need to select your tom tom which will also show as a drive and may even show its own special icon.
In windows explorer select tools then folder options.
Click view and tick the box for "show hidden files and folders"
It may warn you but you can ignore it.
then just copy ALL the files from the tom tom to your sd card.
DO NOT USE CUT AND PASTE !
Once all the files are on your new card switch off the tom tom and insert the sd card and re-boot the TomTom
It should now work.
If not try the hard re-set in which you would use a paperclip to reset the tomtom. there should be a tiny hole on the underside of the unti.
push the paperclip in there (not too hard) while the unit is switched on
This would cause a reset to factory defaults (you may have to set home location etc)
You may also have to switch off and re-boot again for it to take effect.

Tom tom go 300 ''unable to store settings'' ''file access error'

Hi,
You might have the switch on SD card set to "read only" , This would stop your tomtom being able to write to the SD card ... hence , " unable to store settings " message . .... OR ... the folder where your tomtom wants to store the settings is corrupted ( on your SD card ) so it can't store them.... or similarly , the file is corrupted on the SD card ( maybe the card is damaged ) so the existing file cannot be overwritten . Check out all these possibilities before suspecting any hardware fault on your tomtom ..... GOOD LUCK

I have a tomtom one origional. i got a new sd mem card for it but the tom tom wont recodnise it

Check that the sd card is compatible with your device:
http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?Language=1&query=sd+card&FID=2634

Some sd card brands doesnt "speak well" with TT products.
If possible, try another brand.
I have good experience with Sandisk cards...

Trying to upgrade tomtom

there is a good chance the programs etc did not copy to the card. If you have a card reader, check to see if there are programs on the card. Make sure you do not have the sd card write protected, open the small hole on the side of the card, copy the programs again to the card.
