The ss id is the name given to your network and the wep key is the security code or password for the network...you will need to go to the computer that you used to set up the network...assuming your running windows go to the start button bottom left then go to control panel...then network status and tasks...open the properties by right clicking on the network status and tasks..in properties, you should see a window and there should be a button saying wireless properties...click wireless properties...there will be two tabs...connection and security...click connection...here you will see the ss id and you'll need to write it down...then click on security tab..here you will see the wep key and also write it down....next you need to go back to the game sys to enter the info that you wrote down and then it should work ok

How can I secure my wireless connection?

By using a WEP key, please find your manual below, download it, and go to SECURITY, it shows one step by step how to set your WAP/WEP "KEY" Once set, you are secure. As to logon to the WiFi network, you need the special "KEY" to do so.

Can't connect ae1000 to a WEP encrypted bg access point

To connect to a WEP or any encrypted site, you will need to know and supply to your network connection:
  • the SSID (especially if the ID is not being broadcast as an additional safety feature).
  • the exact Encryption Key (normally entered in Hex format).
  • You need to exactly specify the security type (Open, Shared, WPA or WPA2) used for your wireless WEP connection as define on the access point wireless modem/router.
Hope it helps.

Cant find wep key

Your wireless network must be secured
You will need to check the wireless settings of the router.
Is there any computer online using the router.
check the IP address on that computer.
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.
router set up page is the page where you can check all the router settings.
Click Here for more information about the routers and network

I dont know how to change the SSID Name and WEP Key.

You have to change it in the printer settings, not in the router! Otherwise you'll lose connectivity in all the other computers that use this router.
The SSID is the name you gave to your wireless network, and the WEP key is the password you set for your wireless connection.

How do I reset my security with the dlink 2310

To change your router wireless security
  • Support site here http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=470
  • User guide here http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=WBR-2310&tab=3
Connect your PC to the router with a cable to one of the LAN connections - Now you need to Log into the setup of the router - to do that open a web browser, use Internet explorer (some routers setup pages do not work correctly with other browsers) In the browser address bar - 192.168.0.1 Enter the user name (admin) and your password. Leave the password blank by default. Now you can goto the wireless section or secruity section and set the type of encyption to WEP, WPA, WPA-PSK etc and then make up your own password. See Page 25 of the User Manual
On the PC Double click on the wireless connection in the system tray (bottom right hand side of screen) and then connect manually to your wireless signal - you will be asked for the password you set in the router.
Now you are connected.
You may need to remove any old wireless profiles you have on the PC/Laptops Wireless Profiles - Vista/Windows 7: http://mgmcc.forumotion.net/networking-tutorials-f17/removing-an-existing-wireless-profile-t109.htm http://www.tp-link.com/support/showfaq.asp?id=214 - delete the wireless profiles Start> control Panel> classic view> network and sharing center> manage wireless networks Delete the profiles you will then have to enter the wireless security key for any networks you connect to --------------- Wireless Profiles - XP http://mgmcc.forumotion.net/networking-tutorials-f17/removing-an-existing-wireless-profile-t109.htm http://www.tp-link.com/support/showfaq.asp?id=186 - delete the preferred networks start> control panel> network connections> right click on the wireless connection listed wireless networks tab in the preferred network list click on each one and - remove button
you will then have to enter the wireless security key for any networks you connect to

I have a d-link router (dont remember the model #) and I cant remember my WEP code - I've looked up help online and everyone says to go to the admin interface - but that does NOTHING! It doesn't show you...

To reset your router, use the following steps:
  1. Press the reset button for 10 seconds. You can use a small object, such as a paper clip to hold down the button.
  2. Do not power off the unit while the router is being reset.
The unit should now reboot, and once the WLAN light stops blinking the router should be reset.
  3. Open up your Web browser and enter 192.168.0.1 in the address bar.
  4. For the login, enter admin as the ID and leave the password blank.
  5. The reset button is just to the right of where the power cord plugs in to the router.
  6. Remember this resets everything so don't forget to set up your secure network again!

Need to find existing WEP ID, do not want to reset my WEP ID

Flip over your ACTIONTEC and you would see there the default wep key. If you've had it personalized before, you have to open the configuration page of your modem and check for the wep key.

To go to the configuration page, open your internet explorer and type in 192.168.1.1 on the address bar. that is the default address for your actiontec. type in your username and password when prompted. the usual default it ADMIN for username and PASSWORD (lowercase) for password. or you could also try ADMIN (uname)-ADMIN(pword).

click on the wireless settings icon and then click on basic security settings. scroll down on the middle of the page and you will see there your wep key.

if you are unable to open the configuration page because you forgot your username and password, you can reset your modem so that it the uname and password will go back to its factory default settings (admin/password). However, if you are using pppoe connection (authentication using username and password to connect to network) you can lose your connection and you would have to configure your router. so be careful not to press the reset button at the back.

Try this steps.

Go to Network Connections
Properties of Wireless Network Connection
Click Wireless Network Tab on the top
At the bottom, clear the Preferred Network box. Make sure delete all names that are listed.
Click OK all the way out

Enable the WEP on the router.
Now try to connect to the wireless network again with WEP enabled.
Make sure you enter the 10-digit code and not the Passphrase.

If it doesn't connect, try to power cycle the router. Just unplug the power for 30 seconds then reconnect to the wireless network.
That should do it.
