Lay it down on the workbench . Unscrew the case and inspect if the gears are still OK. Then, try to turn to turn it slowly, find if the gears are still intact or worn out.Worn out gears are the most common cause for the locked up. If the gears are still intact, then, it can easily be unlocked. Just don't forget to change the bearings. Then, replace the cover, and power it up.
However, if the gears are worn out or broken, just
don't bother to repair it. Buy another one.

I you can give me for details. What model is it. What was the last thing you were doing when this happened. Try this. On the front where you change the drill bits. Open it up all the way, cycle through the speed selections. Most of the time this will do the trick. If your carbide chuck removable. If so take it off and cycle it. Let me know if this helps.

Put the clockwise - anticlockwise button to the middle 'lock' position. That is the button above the trigger that is orange. Then viewing the drill from the drill bit, turn the chuck anticlockwise.

I have a 18v Hitachi 3ah battery which works fine in my saw, lantern & torch but will not work in drills

Batterys are not necessarily universal even withing voltage ratings by make and model. A bone of contention for many users for many years.

Rigid and Ryobi are two companies that have use standard batteries for their tool line. Consider this when making future tool purchasing decisions.

How to pull apart makita 6980 impact wrench

the battery is removed. remove all screws around the outside of the drill/driver. the side comes off. the motor is a johnson motor connected to the planetary drive and hammer/anvil assembly. the motor drive extends inside the anvil via one gear off the motor. the hammer and anvil come out as one piece. if you depress the center of theanvil with an arbor press, two ball bearings come out and the escapment comes out with the spring. now you can clean the inside of the hammer and gears of the hammer drive.

97 RAV4 door won't open. Or unlock

These can be a nightmare!
Try pushing / pulling all cables and rods available. And key operation if connected.
If there is a solenoid to operate it, remove the connector and use a meter to find the motor wires. Cautiously apply 12v from a handdrill battery - first one way - then the other to see if the drive motor will unlock it.

As a last resort - Drill a 1/4" hole in the lock body - and use that as a pilot hole for a 20mm holesaw - destroy the lock mechanism to gain entry - the lock was beyond repair anyway - so needed replacement - Just don't damage other components if possible.
