The rope may be bound up in the recoil pulley assembly. If the starter rope is at the handle, you should have about 6-7 feet of rope on the recoil pulley.
It should be about a #3.5 size rope. If it has a clutch starter, it may be froze up. You will not know until you can get in there to look at it. If you feel you can not handle find a professional shop.

My Makita circular power saw works then stops working, then starts again. Why is this happening?

Things to check: With the saw running, safely grab the cord by the boot and pull and twist it around. This is where a break frequently occurs inside the cord and when the saw is held in certain positions the break will either open or close. If the cord's OK, unplug the saw and remove the brush caps and check the brushes. If the brushes are less than 1/4" long or the springs are burnt or broke they won't make good contact with the armature. If the cord & brushes are OK your next recourse is to replace the switch (Makita PN 651172-0).

How do i start the saw

Hello. The steps are quite easy once you've done it a few times. When starting: pull the choke switch on, press the throttle lock as you squeeze the trigger (this locks the throttle into a half-on position), push in the decompression valve, and pull the cord. I recommend placing the unit on the ground and stepping in the trigger-guard area to stabilize it. Here's a link to the instruction manual for you reference - it shows the sequence with diagrams on pg 18 & 19. Hope this helps, if it does, please rate a four-thumbs up. Thank You.

You can go to the Makita website, they have the manual and parts breakdown available there at: ( In my experiance with demo saws, Makita and Stihl are quite equal on operation and most all of them have Husqvarna motors in them anyway. They all have their likes and dislikes as far as starting goes even between the same brand. If you have the decompression valve, a small blue button on the side of the cylinder, use it only if you are having trouble pulling the starter rope over. It lets air leak out of the cylinder to reduce compression to make pulling it over easier. If you need to push it in do so but the most important thing to NOT do is flood the cylinder with gas. Usually you should choke a cold engine and pull the cord until you hear it fire the first time. Turn off the choke and pull untill it starts. If it just will not start, pull the spark plug, dry it off and pull the rope a few times to dry out the cylinder, reinstall the plug and try again. Some motors don't want to be choked at all, some work by turning the choke on and pulling a couple times then turning it off and starting it. Try a couple variations with your saw and when you find a method that works use it.

Need new power cord for Makita sander. Looks very much like the Makita 9924DB. Where can I get this part? Live in Canada

If you want the Makita cord for this tool it's part number 664026-2. It can be ordered through several online sites like for about $22 +shipping. You can also use any 18-2 power cord (18 guage-2 leads) with the molded plug end on it, available at most repair shops and some retailers for about $10. Attaching it to the switch is easy, just mirror the old cord as far as how long each lead should be and how much wire to strip off.

Unable to lift the saw blade Makita Miter Saw

Look at the pivot point on the rear of the miter saw for the push/pull locking pin. The pin is there so you can lock the saw in the down position for easier carrying. To unlock the saw, simply pull the locking pin out (Makita calls this the "stopper pin"). Then you can use the saw and easily raise and lower it for cutting.

As you might find it helpful to have, I have included a link from the Makita web site for a free copy of the owners manual that you can print or save for future use and reference. It has some handy info on use and care of your saw.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Ryobi 40cc CHAINSAW .... pulled out cord too far

It is usually just jammed, when you go out too far. Ifyou take the recoil starter off or loose , sometimes it goes back in on it own. If not ,carefully disassemble it and see if the recoil spring is broken.

Can't separate case to replace broken switch

Have you removed the front housing? It has 4 screws that go into the handle halves and must be removed. As far as internal clips there are none. If you removed the front sometimes the handles stick together and you have to hold each piece and gently pull apart. Hope this helps
