I have the same issue with my MAGNAVOX 32MF605W/17 when i turn the power on it flashes white then goes black and the amber standby light remains on.... you decribed it as a Mainboard Problem... my issue is...

I had the same problem caused by a power surge. Removed the back cover (kind of a pain in the *** because it's a tight fit) then removed the metal cover over the circuit boards. There were three 1000uf 35vdc capacitors on the Left board capacitors 2074, 2079 and 2080, that had bulged out tops. Replaced those with the same capacitor from radioshack (p/n: 272-1032 stock at most radioshacks)for $3 and the tv works fine. During this I also noted that the plug right next to the power switch down by the face was loose, pressed that in and everything is kosher...good luck

TV quits working, screen goes black and red light next to power green light flashes 4 quick flashes . After a second or two of no flashing, red light repeats "code" flash. We pull the power plug at the TV,...

The Sony diagnostic routine for 4 blinks indicates it to be a vertical deflection problem.

Did you see a solid horizontal line in the center of the screen prior to it going out? If so, that is a tell tale sign for vertical problems.

basic sony reset below

The STANDBY light will flash if the television detects an issue within the television. Some of these issues can be resolved simply by following the steps below to reset the television.

  1. Turn off the television. IMPORTANT: For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.
  2. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
  3. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
  5. Turn on the television.

If the issue is still unresolved after following all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required. Please note the number of times the STANDBY light flashes and relay that information to the service center

When I power up the screen flickers for a milisecond and returns to black. The fan runs. The hard drive gives a quick 2 second green followed by two pulses of amber for several minutes and then just quits

It sounds as if you have one of two possible problems, either the light tube in your screen is burnt out or windows is unable to load the video driver. When you see the HD green, it means the drive has started, the amber indicated it is working to load the operating system and then it stops - basically indicating it has found something it cannot load or is missing some files or is possibly busy. If your screen shows either the logo or the boot up screen (black with white letters usually), then the screen is working and it is a windows problem. Occasionally on updates or hardware changes it will take windows 5 minutes, up to a half hour at most to load - if you have a flashing cursor in the upper left corner of the screen, try just waiting to see if it will eventually load.

this is most likely the sustainer board(s) problem. Replacing the sustainer boards should correct this problem for you. you can get the parts at vancebaldwin.com

Lcd monitor power light flashing with no img. seems 2 be frozen

The display is in safe mode and you will need to reset the display to get the display out of the safe mode. There are 2 different model revisions. Please choose the method that will match your revision. Depending on the revision of the monitor, one of the following 2 methods should reset it to a normal state. This reset generally requires both hands and it is sometimes easier with another person.

If the serial number begins with an A and/or your power button on the far right (5th button from left):
Method #1
1. Unplug the VGA cable.
2. Remove the power cable from the back of the monitor.
3. Counting the buttons on the front of the panel from left to right as 1 – 5, hold the buttons 2 and 3 down at the same time (see picture above) and while continuing to hold the buttons, plug the power cable back in.
4. Keep holding the buttons for 5 seconds after the power has been plugged in and then let go. The green light should be steady when you release the buttons.
5. If the procedure worked, the green light will go to amber and you should see a "No Signal" message on the screen for a few seconds.
Method #2
4. Keep holding the buttons until the 4th green LED blink; then, let go. The green light should be steady when you release the buttons.
5. If the procedure worked, the green light will go to amber and you should see a "No Signal" message on the screen for a few seconds.

If the serial number begins with a B and/or your power button is in the middle (3rd button from left):
Method #1
1. Unplug the VGA cable.
2. Remove the power cable from the back of the monitor.
3. Counting the buttons on the front of the panel from left to right as 1 – 5, hold the buttons 2 and 4 down at the same time (see attached picture) and while continuing to hold the buttons, plug the power cable back in.4. Keep holding the buttons for 5 seconds after the power has been plugged in and then let go. The green light should be steady when you release the buttons.
5. If the procedure worked, the green light will go to amber and you should see a "No Signal" message on the screen for a few seconds.

Method #2
1. Unplug the VGA cable.
2. Remove the power cable from the back of the monitor.
3. Counting the buttons on the front of the panel from left to right as 1 – 5, hold the buttons 2 and 4 down at the same time (see picture above) and while continuing to hold the buttons, plug the power cable back in.
4. Keep holding the buttons until the 4th green LED blink; then, let go. The green light should be steady when you release the buttons.
5. If the procedure worked, the green light will go to amber and you should see a "No Signal" message on the screen for a few seconds.

You either have a hardware problem with your video card. ( may have pop out of socket when you plug in the monitor) or the cable is not allow communication to the monitor. As long as the amber light comes on you know you have power so focud on data cables and hardware.

Magnavox HDTV model# 15mf605t/17

Just figured this out based on a description of features.

You must power on the TV with the remote control - if you use only the power button on the monitor, it goes straight to stand by mode (the amber light).

your monitor is telling you it's on it's last legs..either that or your compaq has a bad video section. either is more vital than a video cable being loose.
