Remove cdrom drive

Removing the cd rom drive will not make your computer start up. Or are you saying the cd rom drive will not start up? CD rom drives are very sensitive on the disks they read. Most of them have a problem reading some of the discs that someone created on another computer. Make sure you're trying to read store bought discs.
Removing the cdrom drive is very simple. Turn the laptop over and you will normally see a screw with the icon of a circular cd on it. remove that screw then you can grab the cd rom unit by the door and pull it outl

Hello Sir;

You can write any Data to the CD by two ways.
* By Sending the Data to the CDROM Drive
* By using some CD Burning Software

* By Sending the Data to the CDROM Drive
1. Just Select and Right Click the Data that you need.
2. You get a small menu and choose Send to Option and select your
CDROM Drive.
3. After the file is sent get into the CDROM Drive in My Computer and

Cdrw/dvdrw won't recognize or read cd. I replace original cdrom and it works fine. Worked when first installed?!?!

Since you've already replaced the cdrom, the next thing you need to do is delete this registry files,..

This fix came from microsoft if your optical drive can't read or recognize discs,.

if your using windows vista or windows 7, click on the start button then in the start search box type in REGEDIT,

If your using windows xp click on the run icon then

After that look for this,

There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
Then after that go to device manager, look for your cdrom device, you can easily find it,.

If your using windows vista or seven just right click
on the computer icon then properties,
then on the top right corner of the window you will see device manager, click it, then look for the
cdrom, click the cdrom icon, a drop down box will come up, click on the item that came up, then right click it, click on uninstall,

Do the same thing in xp, but to get to device manager right click on my computer, then do the same process.

after that restart the computer and it will automatically restart.

If this one still doesn't work, update the firmware of your
cd rom which you can get from dell's support website, after that if all else fails,
back all your files and then reinstall the operating system.

Hope this helps!

Then Either Drag all the songs to the Flash Drive Icon
Right Click On One Of The Highlighted Songs, and Choose Move... then direct it to Your Flash Drive...

My notebook cannot detect a cdrom drive .. I have formatted my laptop twice already but ' My Computer ' is also not showing any Cdrom drive ..the cdrom drive is opening but there is no detection watsoever...

restore to the factory defaults from bios...probably the device is disabled ...also you may take a look into device manager ( my comp-prop/ .....) to see if it allows you to restore or enable ...
so matter if you reinstall the OS and format the hdd...if its disabled from bios...the installing process..ignores the cd drive ...its like you have 2 Lan cards and you disabled one for to use the new one ...or something like this ...
there is some place where you can enable it ....but you will also have to reinstall the os ...or at least the driver for the cd drive ...if you are not sure what Im talking about ...ask someone to take a look and restore the cd drive from bios...

Reading Data CD's

Hmmm... were the cd's originally burned using that laptop? Or were they burned on a different pc?

It could be as simple as your cdrom doesnt like something about those cd's. Or it could be a flakey cdrom.

My suggestion, try reburning them to a different brand of disk using a different pc. Then see if your laptop will read them. If not, may need to replace the cdrom. Though it reads commercially manufactured cd's, if its flakey, it will have problems reading custom made cd's.

Other option, get a usb flash drive and copy those files from that cd, in a different pc, to the flash drive.

You don't need any special drivers or programs in order to copy mp3 files from a cd to your hard drive. Yet, you would need something in order to play them. Which media player does just fine.

Flakey cdrom or flakey cd's... hope this helps.

I've serviced these units and the cdroms drives were always a problem. The problem on the cdrom is that the actuator switch in the drive itself doesn't allow the drive to spin up all the way to read the disk. The common way to diagnose this problem is push the cdrom drive in and hold it in with a cd is the drive, if it spins up, and works while you are pushing it in, it's the actuator. the fix for this problem is to replace the cdrom drive.
