Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

When I opt for "print" on my Canon Pixma MP800 0n my MacBook, it automatically prints in colour. I would like to have the default setting as "Auto-sheet feeder" and "greyscale" printing, but cannot achieve this through "System Preferences". How do I change the setting, please?

At the moment all I am getting is "Error: webpage not found". In any event, I can see no pop-up button under "Print" on my Mac. Help!!!

  • Colin Hill Sep 26, 2009

When I double-click the printer icon, all I get is technical details of previous print jobs, so that I am stalled at that point. My expertise is such that I don't have a clue as to whether or not I'm using leopard!

When I ask my Mac-OS-X to print, it always prints in colour, whereas I mostly want to print in grayscale, but can't find out how to make grayscale the default using System Preferences. What should I do?

  • Colin Hill Sep 27, 2009

I followed your instructions, but when I reached the point where you advised me to press the "menu" button, I could not find any such button anywhere: or am I just being a bit computer-illiterate?

  • Colin Hill Sep 27, 2009

Very limited computer literacy, so please don't get too technical with me. In a nutshell, I need to find out to set my Canon Pixma MP800 to a default setting of grayscale printing on my MacBook OS-X, instead of colour each time, but seem to get nowhere using system preferences.

  • Colin Hill Sep 27, 2009

I do have printer and fax in preferences, but feel I have exhausted every avenue for trying to alter settings, without any success.

  • Colin Hill Sep 27, 2009

Trying to alter printer (Canon Pixma MP800) settings on my MacBook OS-X, having been referred to system preferences (contains printer and fax, but no facility for altering default settings), was also advised to select DL Envelope as default Paper Size, but to date none of the solutions has worked (including one suggestion that, after setting DL Envelope, I should press the Menu button, but could not find any such button. Must stress that I am no more than computer semi-literate, so keep it simple, please.

  • Colin Hill Sep 27, 2009

Brilliant, thank you very much! Got there at last! Sometimes it pays to be a very stubborn Scot!

    Thanks again.

Will this be my default setting from now, and would I simply need to follow the same steps to achieve a colour printing from time to time?

    Kind regards,

    Colin Hill

Hi, Colin.

1. Select File > Print

2. Next to the name of your printer should be a little arrow. Click on the arrow to expand the print selection box.

3. Midway down is a selection box which defaults to "Safari". Click on this and select "Paper Type/Quality". Change your settings.

Next time, select print but try pulling down the "Preset" menu within Print, then select "Last used settings" which should match what you did previously.

"Preset" will then be set to "Last used settings" even after you close and re-open the application. That should change the Default.

Hope this helps.

Go to your printer setup and adjust settings there. You are right it should also be under preferences that I don't know why it's not there. But you should be able to set it up in printer setup. Good Luck!!

If you cannot use the system default and that by going to your printer file on the computer and select preference and change the setting then you can use printer driver settings within the printer. As it controls also the PPM print speeds which based on the highest speed printer driver mode. Photo print speed is based on the default mode driver setting using Canon Photo Paper plus Glossy paper. Print speed will vary depending on system configuration, interface, software, document complexity, print mode, page coverage; type of paper used and does not take into account data processing time on host computer. CPM copy speeds are based on fast-mode setting using plain paper. Copy speeds may vary based on document complexity, copy mode, page coverage and number of copies. Addition to that you can change resolutions as it may vary based on printer driver settings. Color ink droplets can be placed with a horizontal pitch of 1/9600 inch at minimum...if you need step by step instructions of how to do that please let me know. Please do not forget to grade my assistance so I am able to continue to provide you with better service. I will be working with you to conclusion of the issues.

It seems that you Mac does not redirect you to the link that I have provided. Please try the steps below:

    1. Click the Apple Menu > System Preferences > Printers.
    2. Double-click the Canon Pixma MP800 printer icon
    3. Click on "File" (that's on the upper-left near the Apple icon)
    4. Select Print > Click the pop up button and select Quality and Media.
(in Mac os x tiger select Colorsync and after that select Gray Tone)

    5.
    Check the Grayscale Printing checkbox.
    6.
    Press the Print button.

By the way, are you running Mac Tiger or Leopard or Snow Leopard. Follow the steps that's provided and you should be able to print in Gray Scale. If the buttons on the printer properties are not responding in order for you to modify
the settings, then you may want to verify it with Apple Store Tech Support.

Let me know if the instructions helps you.

    Thank you!

I had the same problem - my printer showed that wireless LAN was enabled & my mac showed the printer but said it was offline. I went to preferences, print & fax, hit the + key to add a printer, added the canon printer again, set that printer as my default, did a print command from Word & that created a queue in the new default printer ... and it printed. Deleted the first Canon printer that was "offline." Oh, and I'm not sure if it made a difference, but before what I just described, I checked for software updates after the printer CD install process & uploaded one update.

Photos printing yellow tinted

Please try this: go to Control Panel, then Printers. Right click on your printer and choose Properties. There should be a Colour Management tab. Click on this. There should be two options: Automatic or Manual. If the Manual radio button is already selected, click the Automatic radio button. The best default Colour Profile to suit your printer should then automatically be chosen.
