Set the height of the pads and turn them so they line up with the rim. Next squeeze them tight against the rim with your fingers and then pull the lower end of the cable through to take up slack and tighten the cable clamp nut. Fine adjustment can be made at the handle bars.

My brakes are sqeaking a bit when it's raining. Should I go and have it checked, or is this normal?

Thanks for choosing FixYa. Water and dirt can get on your pads and get caught up causing sqeaking. It can also be a bad break pad. It would be best if you take it off and check it. Consider getting flaps if you don't have them already to block water and rocks.

I just bought my 2004 buick lesabre and I already need new brake pads. I dont know whether I should get med grade pads or (high grade)ceramic pads. If I get the high grade would I special rotors?

You can use your stock rotors with ceramic pads. If you feel that the pads wore down too quickly then they may have been a less than optimal type. Keeping disc brakes clean is key to making them last longer. When there is brake dust and naturally occurring rust built up in the calipers and slides, then they don't release immediately or completely when you let off the brake pedal and they may actually drag your pads.

My son thinks its a good idea to put gease on new pads (on th pad portion itself) when installing new pads. I know for several reasons its not a good idea. Is there something new I don't know about?

if is copper grease on outside the brake pad it is ok ,to stop the pad to seize up move free from cailper ,if he put grease inside the pads no not safe ,bad news

How do you adjust front cable tension, the front brake pads are a bit away from the rim

The sleeve surrounding the outer cable where it exits from the brake lever mechanism is usually a screw adjuster. Turn anticlockwise to bring blocks closer to rim.
