Are the stripes repeating in a pattern across the screen? if so you probrably have a video ram bus problem or a video ram problem, either way its probrably an issue with your graphics card, thats the worst case scenario. if your feeling lucky just give your monitor cable a wiggle and see if anything changes

I purchased A HCL branded Windows XP Home edition with SP1 during the year 2004. Till now I have not used much. Due to development in software the latest version of antivirus could not be loaded. Hence...

First I'd try booting the PC, as its booting press the F8 key several times. This, with luck, will offer several boot options. Choose Safe mode. (A stripped out version of windows)

Assuming it boots into safe mode, Click on start - all programmes - Accessories - System Tools - System restore.

Restore to a date prior to the SP2 installation.

If all that works, update by going through the windows update software - Start - All Programmes - Windows update.

That will update your o's to SP3.

Failing that, without a copy of windows you're a bit stuck.

However, if you are stuck and don't want to pay again for an operating system, you could download and install "Ubuntu" for free. Its a linux based operating system. Just Google Ubuntu, all instructions are on the web page.

Cyclic boot and reboot after installing SP2

If you have the Windows XP recovery disk you should boot into the disk and do a repair install of the Windows OS. You can also press 'F8' before or right after the Windows XP splash screen comes up and tell it to either boot into Safe Mode or "Boot with last configuration that worked". If you boot into safe mode, go to control panel and programs and uninstall the sp2 installation. Please comment back if you need further assistance. I will be providing a How-To on how to recover a system using system CDs today.

Good Luck,

Downloaded sp2 to my windows xp home edition when computer restarted i got a blue screen and error coad c000021a (fatal error code ) now i get disk boot failure how do i fix this

Harddisk might have some bad surface areas on it. This could possible due to power surge. Repair the HDD with harddisk tools. To do the repair without the tools try scandisk from the dos promt using boot disk. Reinstall XP with the sp2 and all the softwares that you use. Use repair CD that should do most of the softwares itself and install the others software with the CDs or setup programs on backup disk. Back up all the data before doing the clean install so that you can restore it after clean install.

Limited User access will not open files in software program

boot into safe mode on xp. when you start the computer and the bios screen comes up start tapping the F8 key. it should take you to the boot selection screen. press your arrow keys to get to the selection "Windows Safe Mode" and press enter. when xp loads the login screen, there should be an admin account now. use that account to set users access to admin rights.
if you dont want that user to have admin rights but still start software that requires admin rights, try this. right-click on the program. go to run as... and choose administrator.

please let me know if this helped you :)

In the case of computer files, we are referring to copies of the original files that you have on your laptop, desktop, or external drive. Creating a backup of original content means having that data saved in two places, but it's also important to make sure that those two places aren't on the same type of device. For example, if you have 3 copies of a working document on your computer, if your computer crashes, you will still lose all three. This makes the backup method and medium, an important thing to consider for your backup strategy.
