BIOS password for Toshiba Satellite A205-S5803

I recently got my Toshiba A205-S5803 back from being repaired. Just before sending it in the computer magically required a BIOS password, and now it does again. It was working fine last night; asking for the password every so often, and now it's constant. I even tried shorting the solder connections located in the memory storage space. Others post they had nothing but success when I'm left with a useless lt yet again. I don't have the resources to waste sending the computer in again with insurance and a rebuilt truck, can anyone Please Help.

There is a known issue on this model (A205) and Toshiba knows about it. A password can be automatically be set by the computer and will need to be removed and have the BIOS updated so it won't happen again by an "authorized service provider." You can locate your closest Toshiba ASP at support.toshiba.com This is a known issue and Toshiba knows about it. You should get this covered at no charge if you take it into an ASP, make sure to verify this with the ASP and take it somewhere else if they tell you it will cost you anything. Toshiba will cover this till December 31st 2010.

Toshiba Customer Service # is 1-800-457-7777

Sounds like you've had the password removed but have not had the BIOS update that prevents it from happening again. If you take it in one last time and personally ask them to update the BIOS and check to make sure it was updated you will be fine. You can download the latest BIOS update from support.toshiba.com

In that case you need to remove the BIOS password to remove you need to open the laptop locate the CMOS jamper located at the south bridge near the CMOS battery. Remove the jamper within 5 second after that reinsert the jamper. Now the BIOS password was cleared.

    Issue

The computer models listed above may display a "Password =" prompt when the computer is turned on, even though no power-on password has been set. If this happens, there is no password that will satisfy the password request. If the computer is turned off and back on again, it is very likely that the same password prompt will appear. The computer will be unusable until this problem is fixed.

If the problem has not happened yet, you can prevent it from happening in the future by upgrading the BIOS to the newest version.

The occurrence of this problem on any particular computer is unpredictable -- it may never happen, but it could happen any time that the computer is turned on. If this problem does occur, it will be necessary to send the computer to a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider, who will fix the problem at no charge to you.

    Resolution

If this problem has not yet occurred on your computer, then click the following link to download and install BIOS version 1.40. This BIOS displays a power-on password prompt only when a power-on password has actually been set via the BIOS Setup program.

You may also browse for a newer version of the computer's BIOS at pcsupport.toshiba.com.

For more help, see Support Bulletin 98081213 Obtaining downloads and support docs from the Toshiba Support website.

If the problem has already occurred on your computer, then please make arrangements with a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider to have this problem fixed at no charge. To locate a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider (ASP), please visit Toshiba's Global ASP Locator at http://pcrepair.toshiba.com

BTW, I've heard that this only happens when you boot up on battery power.

    Maybe you can confirm this...
