I know the feeling. Here we go,

  1. Go to Control Panel
  2. Click System
  3. Click the Hardware Tab
  4. Click Device Manager
  5. Click the '+' located to the left of Mice and other controllers
  6. There should be two mice listed. Select the touchpad.
  7. Right Click it then click on Properties.
  8. At the bottom where it says 'Device Usage', Change it to Disable.
  9. Click OK until you're out.
  10. If it wants to reboot, let it.
That ought to do it. Hope you found this to be very helpful.

a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

I can not disable touchpad of INSPIRON 1545 of DELL Computers There is no option for disabling touch pad in the MOUSE option of Control Panel

Go to the Control Panel. Under the 'Hardware and Sound' options, click 'Mouse'immortal4u.png

Since you have a Dell laptop, you'll have a special tab called 'Dell touchpad' in the window that pops up. Click on the touchpad picture in the window.

In the new window that appears, click 'Device Select'

Click on the 'Disable' radio button to disable the touchpad completely. If you want to disable the touchpad of your Dell laptop only when an external device like a mouse is attached, check the last option that says 'Disable Touchpad/Pointing Stick when external USB mouse is present'

That's it. You've disabled your laptop's touchpad for good. If you don't find an option to manage your touchpad in Mouse settings, you have to install Synaptics drivers from here. Similar options can be found in other laptops as well.

Good luck ! if your problem is solved don't forget to rate

How do i disable the touch pad on my Dell Lattitude E5400 laptop? Thanks, Tom 917-733-5968

You can turn off the touch pad through the mouse settings in the Control Panel. I was a little frustrated by this too, but if you go to the Control Panel and click 'Mouse', the first tab of this new window is 'Dell Touchpad'. Simply click anywhere in that window and you'll be able to configure the touch pad settings. One great option for many people is 'Disable Touchpad/Pointing Stick when external USB mouse is present' as there is no easy one-button solution to disable it.

My cursor has suddenly developed a mind of its own and floats around at will! How do I solve this please?

Keep the palms of your hands away from the "touchpad" -- it's sensitive to objects that don't actually touch it, but come "close" to it.

Also, check that none of the "arrow" keys on your keyboard are "stuck" in the "down" position.

If necessary, use CONTROL PANEL to "disable" the touchpad, and connect an external USB mouse.

The mouse on my dell keyboard has a mind of its own, can i fix or disable it

Go to
and download and install the driver for the touchpad. If that does not solve your problem then use a USB mouse and forget about having the touchpad.

Touch pad is not working in my dell latituse 600

If the touchpad is not working, then ensure that the touchpad is not disabled in the BIOS, in control panel ensure that is is not disabled there either. If the touchpad is not disabled in BIOS or Control Panel, then a palmrest would be required to fix the issue. On a system of that age, I'd just use a wireless mouse till I was ready to replace the system
