Question about Canon PowerShot S3 IS Digital Camera

Zoom not working at all

My digital camera is working just fine, except that the zoom won't work at all. I can't zoom in or out. A while back, the lens cap would stick and the lens would have trouble popping out when I turned the camera on. (I know, i should take the lens cap off first.) Could that have caused the zoom to break? Can I fix it at home? Is it a common problem with this camera? Is it under warranty? Do I need to take it somewhere for repairs? It's less than 1 year old.

Re: zoom not working at all

Me too at times had this lens cap sticking problem but till date i dont find any issues with the lens zoom because of that. Jst check whether u r working in super macro mode (a small flower with S displayed on top of ur display) and trying to zoom in/out. Zoom wont work in super macro mode.

Re: zoom not working at all

You have a one year warranty with Canon, you should have all the information about shipping it to them in your original box.

My camera wont zoom

I had a similar problem on a Kodak Easyshare camera. The gear merchanism for the Zoom had jammed. I know it sounds drastic, but I fixed it by pushing in on the lens assembly until is snapped back in place. It could be a bad motor or bad motor driver circuit too.

My Kodak EasyShare M320 camera works fine except for the fact that everytime I try and zoom in, the camera shuts off. I'll charge it and the problem still doesnt resolve itself.

sounds like the zoom motor is shot. to prevent further damage, the unit shuts off when the power goes to the motor but the motor doesn't move. if power kept going it would overheat and melt inside if was allowed to get hot enough. it could be the motor is stuck but either way i think you may need to take it in to a repair shop. if still under warranty, i would take it back.
hope this helps

Buttons don't work and can't zoom

Some of those buttons work in combination with the two dials (i.e., setting ISO and white balance, etc.). Hold a buttin down and user the knobs simoultaneously.
If this is not the issue, please describe specifically which buttons are not workin...

thank u

Zoom wont work

double-check the battery first, as zoom needs more power.

if battery is ok then there is possibility of loose connection/ dry solder inside or some component gone faulty.
contact your vendor or kodak support if still in warranty.

I have a crapped out unit (PCB Board $250.00 part!!!! + labour) that I am either going to sell for parts (complete with all accessories that came with it), or try to find a broken unit that I can steel the PCB board from. Let me know what you end up doing with it.

Digital zoom not working

Digital zoom is in the menu and must be turned on to activate it. When you use the zoom it takes 2 opperations to function. First opperation is to zoom all the way in then the camera should stop. This is the limit of the optical zoom. Then you let off the zoom button, and hit it again and then the digital zoom will start. Digital zoom is just a gimic if you learn how it works its not doing anything different then you can do in photoshop. All digital zoom is doing is like cropping.
