I don't have a manual and need step by step help.

It is all new to me.

I had an IT company come yesterday and setup the printer on the network but they didn't know how to setup the scanning.

So it is all on the network but not sure how to scan to get the docs on the PC.

Click below to download the user manual and you have the instructions on page 12

This information may also be helpful to you.

When SMTP authentication is used, all the IR i series infact(IR 2200i, IR 3300i, IR 2220i, IR 3320i, etc, ) will not be able to scan to e-mail as the mail server will only allow mail with authentication to be send . The work around is to install a mail server on a PC to relay the mail (if it is possible for you to install that in customer location). You can try using postcast smtp mail server(PostCast Server - Free SMTP Server) but the pc you install the mail server on need to be able to access the internet.

If mail server(SMTP) is external (if all setting like DNS, Gateway, Domain and email address is set correctly) there will be no issue send e-mail to external and internal e-mail. As for internal mail server(SMTP) you would also be able to send e-mail to both internal and external e-mail unless the mail server have policy to block external e-mail.( If this happen you need to ask the mail server administrator to configure the mail server to allow the IR to relay mail.)

POP Setting is only for IR to recieve I-Fax.

It is not necessary to create a e-mail address for the copier.

You can use a dummy e-mail, but I prefer to use a valid e-mail address
in case of reverse DNS in some mail server. You may used any valid
e-mail or you may also create a e-mail address for the copier.

Scanning & Sending Colour Documents - Once connected to your network, the iR 3100C is an intelligent device. Which means you can send black and white and color documents to many destinations in a single operation. Once scanned in, they can be distributed to wherever they are needed – individual e-mail addresses, a specific database or to a file server for storage. After you connect to the net select scan and the unit will take yhou step by step.
Do you need step by step instructions of how to do it or you have the manual? Let me know what exactly you need and I will work with you .

Before sending email, you need to create the documentation’s first by one of the two following methods: Job Build or Mailboxes, as the space is limited I will address only the Mailboxes:

Set up your Mailbox under Additional Functions - Mailbox Settings - Give the Mailbox a name - and make sure the deletion time on the Mailbox is set to “0”. You are also able to give your Mailbox a pin number (up to 7 digits).

Select the Mailbox screen, and select the Mailbox you want to store the document into

    Select Scan

Name your document If you don’t do this it will get a time and date name -which will make it more difficult to find your job at a later date.

Select the features you want to use - especially any quality options as this is the way the document is stored. Although you are able to change the way a document prints you will not be able to change any of the quality options.

Put the documents in the feeder and press Start - if you are using Job Build keep adding pages until you have scanned the whole document

When this is completed press Done. The document is stored into the Mailbox

After you done creating the documentations to be sent or printed select one of the followings:

    To Send an Email

    Select the Send Tab screen

Select the Address Book and select the address required and press OK

(If you do not have the Email address preset in the Address Book you can manually enter it from the Qwerty Keyboard.)

Choose the file type TIFF or PDF

If your original is Two Sided press the Two Sided Original Key.

Select the layout of your original (most are book type).

    Press OK

Choose the resolution that is required from 200dpi to 600dpi.

    Press the Green Start button.

Again thank you for giving me this opportunity to assist you and hope that the above-mentioned steps meet your approval. Please see that grant me your approvals by rating my service and I hope that I can serve you again the future.

I thought that you need to scan from the printer and e-mail the materials, if you need to scan from the printer to the workstations that is ok…do you have on the system a utility program called Canon’s Color Network ScanGear that is the one that you use to pull scanned images from the imageRUNNER C3100 Series over a network to a destination PC or file server...let me know

  • Norman Al-Anbar Sep 26, 2009

If this is what you are looking for then I can provide you this step by step to use the computer to scan a document to your PC and then e-mail it or print, etc. this is a long document and they will not allow us to use more than the limited space available and that is not much…Do you have n e-mail address that I can send you the step by step instructions as well as copy of the user guide?

Again thank you for giving me this opportunity to assist you Please see that grant me your approvals by rating my service and I hope that I can serve you again the future

I have a second hand Canon IRC3100. The computer is networked to this copier, however, it will not print and has a message "Scanning has stopped because the memory is full" Can anyone help

Navigate through the menus, in order to "delete previous scan images" (that are stored on a disk-drive inside the printer). Very sloppy of the previous owner of the printer to _NOT_ "delete" all those scanned items, before selling the printer. Post all those scans to Wiki Leaks. :-)

How can i hook up the scanner?

Hook the network cable to your scanner nec card on the machines, note that this machine has two nec cards, one for printer and one for scanner.
after that Go to the setting and under setting/Scanner Default create and ip address for the scanner. after you done from that go to the computer browser, type in the ip address, you can choose scan to smb or pc.
Scan to smb needs shard folder but scan to pc needs to run software on your computer on your pc.
Setup the sender list which you need to fill only the ip address of the machine as sender.
Go to destination setup the ip address of the computer you scanning to, the path is the shared folder name, and the user name and password of your computer and you good to go.

To make it easy for you, Provide me your email and i will attach the scanning manual to help you setup it correctly and you can always get back to me in any question.

Canon IR C3100N Scanner Setup

Hi Its fair simple, if you are scanning to windows PC, Create a folder called scans in your C:\ drive. Share it and give all the permissions. Thereafter log on to your copier using the IP address in your internet explorer. Go to address, click address book one, click the second tab on your left saying register new address. thereafter enter you name, then change from FTP to SMB and then host name will be your computer name\ip address, followed by scans(\\computername\scans)just like that. followed by your username and password.

Setup scan to pc function

Find the scanner on the network... you can use a tool like Advanced IP Scanner to search the subnet and then just hunt down the IP that belongs to the device -- it may not have a name registered.  Visit each potential IP via browser (, one will show you the Kyocera web page.  The device has two, one for printer, one for scanner.. each one on its own IP....
That's how far I've got with mine - i was hoping it supports SMB scanning, but it may not.  So now I am looking for the rest of the setup.

Laserclass 730i scanner driver software

The scanning is based on scanning to email. It isn't really controlled from the computer like a typical scanner is. The settings are all on the panel of the device. They are resolution, Contrast, and Doc Type. From there, you have to configure the machine t send the scanned image to an email address. The email address requires that you have the device setup for email with a network address, smtp server, etc.
