Question about Dell Dimension 4550 P4 Socket 478B Motherboard (2U819)
I took my 3.0ghz CPU out of my Dell dimension 3000 and placed it into my 4550 and the 4550 won't recognize the CPU. It powers up but won't boot. I've done some searching around and found that the Dell dimension 4550 is supposed to support up to a 3.06ghz CPU. Any help would be great, I just need at the least 2.8ghz.
Your problem is the same as trying to put a AMD3 into a AMD2 socket, yes it fits and yes i physically should be able to run it it but in reality it won't

I dont know what fixit was thinking, he must be about as computer literate as a donkey. The 3 Ghz CPU you have is probably a Presler core. The 4550 only supports Northwood cores.
