We bought a Vizio LCD/HD tv for our daughter and she has had nothing but trouble with it. The current problem is that there is a dark streak that runs vertically around the center of the screen. It doesn't look like dead pixels because it's more of a "smudge". Do you think it's fixable or would it be cheaper to just replace the TV? By-the-way, it's out of warranty and Vizio has the worst customer service ever.

You seem to be describing a damaged LCD panel. Parts and service are extremely difficult and expensive for your set if parts and the service information could be found.
Generally speaking, the cost of replacing a defective LCD panel would exceed the total value of your set.
When buying a new TV, stay with the big brand names. Shop around. When you pick out some models you think you like, do a search on the net to know how your choice was rated. I would recommend to stay with the bing brand names.

- Most of the time the lower priced sets are not worth to service. Operating and supporting a service department is very expensive. During warranty, its usually much cheaper to give the customer a new set.Jerry G.
