Question about Cameras

1 Answer

Hi, I have a Sony DSC-W100 cybershot camera that the mode switch has gotten flaky. If you just touch it, it switches modes and if you rapidly change modes back and forth from one end of the control to the other, it may work for a while and then gets flaky again. Acts like the switch has dirt in it. Can I buy the switch? Clean it? or should I just toss the camera? Jim Lofgren in Redmond, WA

Hi!
A common problem with the W100. It can be taken apart and cleaned, but unless you have experience in things like these, I would recommend you getting a new mode switch. You can get one from here http://hop.02.lv/UQ
I work for Sony.

The mode dial has gone faulty. It has to be taken apart and cleaned. It could be a bit tricky for a non technical person. You could give it to a camera technician, I'm sure he will repair it cheaply. I have repaired a lot of these.

MY mode-selection switch glitches

I have a Sony DSC W100 and had a similar problem. On one of these post there was a solution which worked for me. It stated to reset the camera and on the Sony if it is a reset button, it was located inside the battery/memory card slot. It is located to the left of the memory slot a little gray dot.

DSC-W100 "Shaky Hand" icon and taking infrequent pictures

You restarted it by turning it off and on again?

Try re-initializing your camera. Menu --> Setup 1 --> Initialize "OK"

I hope that helps.

As for switching back to camera mode, that could be your selector switch. Mine is weird to, it takes pics fine but the selector switch is touchy and thinks i'm turning it when I'm not. It does this most often in Auto mode, probably because I use it most. You might try putting it in another mode before reviewing pics.
