You have to have an antiviral program I would suggest CA as it is very efficient and not dear to buy.

Restart your computer, and keep pressing F8, until you get the Windows "start-up" menu -- white text over a black background.
Choose "Safe Mode", and see if you can logon.

Then, try one (or more) of the anti-virus scanners listed at:
http://www.facebook.com/security?v=app_10442206389

Or, follow the "best practises" recommended by Microsoft:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc700813.aspx
and backup your data files, reinstall Windows & your anti-virus software,
and reload your data files.

It seems you have been infected by a trojan. This virus infects all versions of WIndows OS: It is considered a Low Risk Virus, but it needs to be removed immediately.

Backdoor.Ranky.Z allows unauthorized access on the infected pc by opeing a backdoor port.

Technical Name: Backdoor.Ranky.Z

Lets Remove the Virus:
  1. Disable your system Restore; this is to keep the virus from restoring itself to do this:
  • Right click on my computer
  • click on properties
  • select system restore tab
  • check "turn off system restore" uncheck "to turn on"
  • click Apply
  • click Yes when dialog box tell s you this will erase all restore points.
  • Press OK
2. Make sure your virus definitions are up to date.

3. Reboot your system in Safe Mode

4. Run a full/deep system scan & delete all infected files.

5. Delete/Modify any values added to theRegistry

how to edit registry

Delete this entry :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run \"Advanced DHTML Enable" = "[PATH OF TROJAN EXECUTABLE]"

6. Exit registry editor and restart your PC.

7. Run a Full scan to make sure it is really gone.

Hope this helps (rate high if this helps)... Good luck! ^_^

Trojan.Gampass and Trojan.Wimad

Hi sdcurrie

Yes your PC is still clean the reason why Norton could'nt remove the virusses is becuase it is on the cd and norton can't write to the cd but it did stop the viruses to spread to your PC.
Just another example why it so important to have a antivirus installed and to keep it up to date.

I wouldn't try to install Norton on a machine I suspected had a virus (or at all really). There is a Norton removal tool on the Symantec website that might be useful, but you still need to get rid of the Trojan. There are a lot of free online virus scanners that should do the job. If you can go online in safe mode that would be best, or you could disable everything on startup using MSConfig.
