You probably have bad grounds on the bottom of the mainboard. One may be a standing diode. And you may have a bad capacitor. Look for 25volt 100mf cap near your powerline reg...These are common. Hey maybe before you pull the back cover off try this. Set the contrast to minimum and lower the brightness...can you see a picture? If yess the cap mentioned is bad.Locations for the cap or caps are c3432 and c3434. Also check Q2601 for no video. this is a transistor. And solder the back of the CRT board. This tv has many many miles on it...Good Luck!

The thin strip is possibly a combination of bad parts on your main board. You possibly have a bad horizontal output transistor and or a bad flyback transformer. All of witch should not be repaired by the average homeowner. These sets could have upwards of 30,000 volts inside even when unplugged!! Please dont forget to rate this answer for me ! Good luck!!

Resolder the vertical deflection section. Change pump up capacitor if it has one...100uf is a typical value. Is the vertical output some flavor of LA783x ?? May need to replace. A model # would help.
