You must get an IDE to SATA converter as below

Re: Connectind to SATA slots

WAIT, why connect with IDE hard drives. SATA slots are only for devices that supports SATA slots, If your device such as hard disk has no sata slots you cannot connect it there. Just connect it to the IDE slots as it is where it is supposed to be connected..

Im not sure if there are converter for the two slots.

Hello.. i have a asus p4pe x mother board and i wanna know wat power supply will i need...

this will depend on HARD DRIVE whether ide the ide will have 40 pins or sata the sata will have 8 copper slat type also PSU power supply unit ide or sata power connecters these days they usually supply both next MOTHERBOARD if has ide and sata plugs the ide will be a flat ribbon type with 40 pin plug ends the sata will be 8 copper slat type usually a bit thicker
most power supply units will fit but to make absolutely sure you could take some measurents inside you computers frame to make sure it will fit also you might need to get a heavy duty with plenty of wattage if you have added more ram another hard drive or a bigger one or any other devices cd/dvd drives then you will need more wattage to boot up
hope this helps
6 PCI slots, supports Socket 478 processors up to 3-GHz, two IDE, on-board sound.

Cons: Only supports one diskette drive

The Bottom Line: Good for building a modest system. It is still useful today. Reliable performance. 6 PCI slots make is very expandable.

Is it compatible to use a sata hard drive

Not without a host card like this one:
You don't have any SATA ports on your motherboard. You can use a host card to add those ports in, if you have a free PCI slot.
Have fun and good luck.

Dear Technical Team, I have CPu with motherboard of GIGABYTE 8S 661 FXMP-RZ. The hard disk is working on IDE . But when I conneted another HDD connected with its SATA slot, it is not working. Would...

Can you see the sata drive in the bios? Also, are you tring to boot from the sata drive, or is it an additional drive for data storage. If the sata drive is brand new, then you probably need to partition it and format it.

Boot into windows (from the ide drive) with the sata drive connected (data and power cables). Once in windows, right-click computer (my computer in xp) from the start menu, and left-click 'manage'.
Now, click on 'disk management'. If the drive is new, you will see it in this window, and you can partition it and format it.

Please let me know if this works or not. If not, I can help some more.

Sata power supply with ide only mother board?

Unlike IDE drive cables, which allow you to connect at least 2 drives to the same cable, SATA cables only allow one connection from motherboard to drive per cable. You can connect as many SATA drives to your motherboard as you have SATA connections.

IDE Ports not working on ASUS P5LD2-VM Mobo

Good Day sir, hi, Have you tried to enable the IDE on BIOS setup. If the Bios setup did not solve the IDE problem, check the IDE port of the HARD drive, check if there are bent pins.
If still wont work, you can buy a PCI to IDE/SATA card, this is an expansion card in PCI format with IDE and SATA port.We use this card incase the IDE or SATA on the motherboard gets bad. Connect it on the available PCI slot. Then connect the IDE cable of the Hard disk to this card. Thats it.

Windows setup does not see sata drive K8VGA-m

Good day sir, if your hard drive is bad it cannot be detected, but lets review first several reasons why it cannot be detected by your motherboard;
  • check the master / slave setup, if youre hard drive is sata, this is not applicable.
  • check your connection, both data and power cable, to and from the hard drive. (ribbon ide cable or red sata data cable)
  • Still cannot be detected? try to reset your CMOS setup by using the cmos battery jumper. after reset, review the CMOS settings, and enable your IDE/SATA drives. test again.
  • Stiil doesn't work? bring it to a friend who has a PC and try to test your hard drive to any available good PC, to check if your drive is bad.
If your hard drive is good, chances are your motherboard IDE/SATA part is bad, you may need to buy a PCI to SATA/IDE card. connect this card to any available PCI slot, connect your hard drive. hope this helps.
