Scle193, What happened that you needed to replace electrolytic capacitors? Why ??? Still no sign of power??? Did you pay attention to polarity when replacing the capacitors? Did you document you work with a digital camara to make sure that you could put it back together without having any leftover parts or unconnected cables. Have you measured the dc voltages at the output of the SMPS? Have you checked any and /or all onboard mounted FUSES?? What was the original complaint you had with this monitor? Have you tried to get a service manual or schematic from Philips? Get back to me with info
if you can. lmistyrel @aol.com bye for now. louie12fix

TV just went blank. My brother-in-law has a LG LCD tv. He is going to give it to me. Would it be worth it for me to try and get it fixed. It is about 5 yrs old.

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. The entire board costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found at tv-part.com but supplies are limited. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

I have a tip/tutorial on this site that may also help. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. It's called: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I'm working on uploading pictures to help guide people though the process as well. Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Hope this helps and Good luck.

Moniter is not on . i checked the power is comming to the moniter. no picture no lights, screen is not on i mean moniter totally dead.

If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

arpanpallar, If you are certain that pc not causing problem, then hp internal "switch-mode-power-supply" could be the problem. Noisey DC source will cause very strange things to occur on screen!! You or technician will need to look for common visual signs of bad capacitors on the circuit board. Do some reading in my and other CCFL back-lit lcd monitor tech's fixya profiles. 12fixlouie

Monitor will appear to come on a "no signal" sign flashes up then the screen goes black. If you press the on off swich the green light will come on briefly then go to orange and then disappears completely...

could be a number of possibilities, lcd backlight is going bad, bad capacitors on the power board, lcd cable needs to be reseated, power board needs to be replaced. Best possibility would be to take it to a repair shop and see what the costs would run to fix it.

If its more then the cost of a new monitor then get a new monitor cause you would get the warranty.
