Is your laptop/desktop getting the ip address from your router (if you have one?)
Are you on a wireless connection or ethernet?
Go to start button, connnect to, show all, double click over LAN connection or wireless connection whatever you are using, properties, then support, please let me know if you have any IP in the first line?
Also if you are on a wireless connection, make sure your wireless NIC is NOT disabled, enable it. Let me know if you need help?
Hope that helped!

Where is the wireless switch on the dell vostro 200

Unlike notebook computers, most desktops don't come with wireless networking built in. I can't find any mention on Dell's site that the Vostro 200 has wireless capability, so this computer doesn't have a wireless switch. To use your desktop computer on a wireless network, you'll need to install a wireless adapter. USB adapters are very easy to use since you just have to plug them in. They're not expensive and you can easily find them at retail stores and online.

Laptop wireless card problem. I bought a used computer. I've never had a laptop with a wireless card. It worked fine. Two lights blinked on the card. All of the sudden i couldn't get the internet....

If you do not have a wireless router which is connected to your Internet servce provider and now your laptop does not connect to the Internet then, you could have connected to your neighbour's Internet connection.
The reason why you cannot now get Internet access is, this neighbour has discovered unauthorized access to their unprotected wireless connection and has taken security steps to prevent further unauthorized access.

If you have a wireless router and it is connected to the DSLor cable modem then - To connect to your wireless router, the router needsits wireless settings to be configured with the SSID, encryption key etc., alsothe wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured withthese router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers cancommunicate with your wireless router and access the Internet via the DSL or cable modem.

My modem keeps dropping connection. I have called my ISP and they say everything is running just fine. It happens when i am playing counter strike source and i start lagging badly and all of the sudden my...

Intermittent connection issues are very difficult for internet service providers to trouble shoot. The first step in trouble shooing any Intermittent connection problem is to look at the chain of equipment involved in flow of data from the internet service provider to the end user. In most homes the packets enter from the main line to the modem, than from the modem to the router, and finally from the router to you computer. So that means that the issue can be caused from the following equipment: main cable line, splitter, modem, router, or the Ethernet / wireless card of the PC. The first step in trouble shooting this problem is to wait for the internet to drop off. As soon at this happens go to your modem. If the top 4 lights are not solid green then the the modem is losing it's connection to the internet. This can be cause by some thing as simple as a bad splitter in the home or some thing as complicated at an issue at the pole. If the modem drops the connection I would recommend contacting the internet service provider and demand a service call to swap the modem and check the pole. Now if when the connection drops the modem still has access than the issue is most likely with the router or PC. If more than one computer loses it's internet access than you can rule out the computer as the issue. At this point I would have to recommend bypassing your router for about 48 hours. If the issue does not return than you know the router was the source of the problem.

I hope that information above has helped is some way.
If possible please rate this solution.

You will need to check the internet connection on your computer. Your internet may work fine but check the cables for internet and the IP addresses those Internet providers provide you. If need be call your internet provider to get out of this problem.

Says connected but when you open internet explorer it cannot display the webpage

Are you able to access internet when you connect the router with the computer or laptop using a cable if yes then you need to open the setup page of the router in the wired connection with IP http://192.168.1.1 and then need to check the wireless settings
Right now you might be connected in the local network means the connection between the router and computer is fine and the issue may be between the internet service provider and the router for that you again need to open the router setup page and do the internet service provide settings on the router

Let me know if this help if you will provide me more info i can help further with the setup

Internet no longer working, but internal network is fine.

i agree with all the above.. it's definately clear as mud how the network is designed and or funtioning. The machines connected to the wireless d-link router.. are they via cat5 inthe wired ports or wireless ? is the server the machine thats connecting to the switch and wiress router and modem? i'd say reset all switches modems routers and machines.. shut them all down.. then fire the cable modem, then the wireless router then the desktop switch then the server, the workstations and the one lonely wireless.. run "ipconfig /all" on all machines and if they aren't all sharing common ips and access, provide the results here for further investigation.

Wireless router to modem problems

Since it says network cable unplugged on the computer when wired to the router, you need to check these first:

â Make sure that the Ethernet cable is connected from the modem to the router’s Internet (WAN) port and the computer to the numbered port of the router. The computer should used to be connecting to the Ethernet port of the modem, if not; you should contact your ISP first.
â Make sure that the Ethernet adapter/LAN card on your computer is working properly. You can check that on the device manager of your computer.
â If those are all working fine that would mean the router is not yet configured for Internet access or we can say that the settings for the provider are not synchronized with the router.

To configure the router, you can do these general steps:

1. Connect the computer to the numbered port of the router and the modem to the router’s Internet (WAN) port.
2. Turn off the computer, router and modem.
3. Turn on the modem first, wait for the lights to stabilize then turn on the router. As soon as the lights are stabilized, you can turn on the computer and check for internet connection.

However, if the Internet connection still does not work. That means there are additional settings needed to be done. You can message me about the name of your ISP and I will provide you the specific steps you need.
