Fix freeze up

There is a reason they freeze up 1. low on freon..2 evaporator coil needs cleaning(inside coil)..3. very dirty air filter, any one of these for a an air conditioner may freeze up... due to a number of other reasons. The most common reason for an air conditioner to freeze up is low on refrigerant.

When a air conditioner freezes up can one put it on fan low speed

If the unit is freezing up then you have a problem. One is the air flow is to low going through the evaporator coil this could be caused buy a dirty filter, dirty coil and fan blade or low freon charge. the lower the fan speed the colder the coil temperature. the coils and unit should be cleaned every year. running your unit on low is not a good idea.

Hello, I have a Ruud 10 seer unit in the condo i rent...it frequently stops cooling. The fan inside never shuts off, but the unit outside won't come on often enough to cool to the temp on thermostat. When...

It sounds like the air cond is freezing up, and as he melts the ice off he evaporator coil you will have air flow again. When the evaporator, (which is the coil that absorbs the heat from your condo) is frozen over, no air flow can pass through it. The evaporator is located either above the furnace or below the furnace. Therefore, the indoor fan will continue to run, but no cool air will be coming out of the vents. What causes it to freeze up? Usually it is low on refrigerant (some people call it freon). If there is a leak in the system, he may charge it with refrigerant, and then in a few days or weeks later have to thaw it out, and charge it again. If this is the case, you might want to request the leak be located and fixed. Another reason it will freeze up is a dirty filter. Or, if the unit did not have a filter in it for quite some time, the evaporator could possibly be stopped up with dirt resulting in poor air flow all the time and and eventual freeze up of the evaporator. Hope this helps you, stay cool.

Not cooling looked at inside behind filter and it is frozen

Hi,

A frozen evaporator coil means one of two things, a lack of air flow or low refrigerant (freon).

Make sure the filter is clean and the coils are free of dust and dirt. If the unit blows good air (strong flow on high) when it first starts up and then freezes you are low on refrigerant and need to have it recharged.

Window A/c 10 or 15 days is good working\r\nbefore !0 or 15 days ago all Eveporater and section line freeze fan moter good praper work melt the freeze and A/C on A/C giving good cooling what is problem

Hello
You may try cleaning the evaporator filter,Also cleaning the outside coil or condensor,Simple green works good for cleaning coils and a garden hose.

Also cleaning the evaporator may help.
When unit is running properly the evaporator should feel cool and wet from top to bottom.
Last, the unit could be low on freon.

Freezer not freezing

Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

My A/C evaporator is freezing up, and wont cool the house below 85 degree

Check your filter and make sure you have one in place and it is clean. This is either a low inside airflow problem or system is low on freon. If you have strong air flow from vents and filter is been kept clean then low freon is most likely. Run system in on position with cooling off to make sure ice is melted. When water stops draining. then restart system . If it starts frosting up at outside unit shortly after start up it most likely is air flow. If you don't have at least 15 degree drop from registers in a few minutes and indoor humidity is not too high inside and airflow decreases and air gets colder just before it freezes up then it is low freon.

The unit is not cooling. have noticed ice on the line in the unit outside.

if one or few pipe may not aproblem may be the thermostat is aet to very low cool anf the fan on low speed or the thermostat is defective also if this icing is growing up means
-1 evaporator need cleaning
- 2 a smll freon leakage

Compressor will not start.

Usually short cycling means that High side pressure is getting to high (due to not working condenser fan, or dirty condenser coil), or low side pressure is getting too low (might have low level of freon or restriction in sealed system). low side would drop dramatically if indoor blower is not running, so if air is not circulating thru evaporator coil, coil will freeze up and low side would be much lower then normal. Here is video how I found issue with package AC not coming on. Thermostat call for cool, but condenser would not come on, indoor blower runs ok.
