Re: getting an ip connection

You have to put in the SSID (the name of your network, this one you put in the router configuration) of your router to which you are trying to get the ip from, into the wireless NIC card configuration to which you are trying to get the ip from.
Make sure that you have installed the software that came with the wireless NIC card.
Hope that helped!

Hello i have d'link airplus g dwl g630 e2 5.0 network card in my other laptop.. it has drivers installed and it connects to network, but i cant get in internet.. it says " the connection has limited...

This happens when the wireless network card fails to get an IP address from the wireless router.
To get the router to issue your wireless network card with a new IP address, right click on the wireless card icon on the task bar and click Repair.

This is not recommended, better to have your own internet that way you get uninterrupted while playing instead having to rely on someone else. However, you could buy an extended antenna for your wireless network adapter to reach greater ranges and possibly, maybe, probably, but most not definitely might find someone with a open network. Everyone new is becoming more secure prone so your chances of getting a reliable connection and open connection are slime buddy.

Xbox 360 live using internet through my laptop

Normally you would connect your xbox directly to the router. Is there a reason you are trying to connect to your laptop instead? (distance, etc.)

If that is what you truly want to do then first thing make sure you are using a CROSSOVER cable to connect your laptop and xbox together. standard network cables only apply to connecting to routers, switches, and other network controlers. If you are connecting two devices directly you must use this type cable. It is ussally red.

The share tab is only for sharing dialup connections to LAN connections. You are sharinbg two LAN connections so all you need to do is bridge them and make sure there are in the same IP group. Check the status of your wireless card to see what address the router is assigning to it. Then assign the IP to the wired adapter with a differnt higher number.. Example: If your wireless card is then make your wired adapter This should make it work.

Again, it would be much easier to connect your XBOX to the router like it was intended ;)

I cant get onlin

I have seen this kind of strange behavior when the adapter is bad. No network detection, or connect but no webpages would ever come up, weird problems. All cleared up by replacing the adapter with an identical one, so it was not because of any settings or software issues. A new adapter is probably needed.

Wep address

Your wep adress? You mean your IP adress? Go to and that number is your IP adress. Enter that manually, and your XBox should be connected.

Unable to open internet page

let you router allocate the ip addresses manually by enabling DHCP and restart the router, and remove the usb adapter from the usb port and reconnect it, but when you right click on the taskbar on the little pc icons for your connection click enable WZC windows wireless Zero configuration as this will dissable the software you got with the usb adapter and hopefully make the connection more stable, but ensure you have a strong signal.

Connected on Wireless but unable to connect on Internet

If not done allready, setup the lan IP address and default gateway in win98 Click MyComputer-ControlPanel-Network-Double Click TCP/IP Adapter for your 3com device-insert LAN info for IP Adress-subnet mask, Gateway and your Internet service providors DNS Addresses info Tab's (3x different Tabs "IP Adress" "Gateway" "DNS Configuration") IP Adress will be at least one number higher than your gateway address and not allready being used by other PC's on your network and gateway address will same as your router interface address subnet mask will be the same for all PC's on your network. For 3com and Netgear routers LAN setup is usually Gateway = Subnet Mask = IP Adress = alternate number than 10 if allready used by another PC on your network, try to use round numbers, must be a number higher than 1) Once all info is entered click OK (this may trigger a database info update message and task)now your LAN is setup and ready to talk to your network Restart PC and try browsing again. May possibly require reinstallation of the TCP/IP client (you double clicked this to setup your LAN in Win98) or reinstallation of the IIS(Internet Information Services)component found in, Add/Remove Programs-Add/Remove windows components and then try LAN setup again if this does not work first time round
