Timing 17.5 hp mower

The motor will not turn over without jumping off. The battery is charged. Motor barely turns then sometimes starts once it turns over fast. Is this a timing issue?

I don't think it's a timing issue, i think the valves need to be adjusted a little tighter - if the rocker arms are too loose, the valves don't open enough and compression builds up, fighting against the starter

How do you tell if it needs charged or not?

Hi Kelly, A fully charged battery is 12.4 to 12.6. and when the motors running it's 14.3 to 14.6... Three reasons your battery is flat (isn't charging), You have a faulty battery, A power drain or you have a faulty alternator... Clean your battery terminals and If you don't have a multimeter then Try jump starting your flat battery and driving your car for at least ten minutes then turned the motor off and try starting it WITHOUT jump start, If the battery's still flat then it's the battery, If your car starts straight away but won't start the next day then you have a power drain... If you jump start your flat battery and go for a ten minute drive but during that drive the motor dies without turning off the key then it's the alternator....
A mechanic or an auto electrician can usually test Free of charge if you can get it there....CHEERS..

Model 170 with a Kawasaki 14 hp engine. Why doesn't anything happen when I turn the key?

This is a 12 volt system and the battery should have 12 1/2 volts. Motor running the voltage should be above 13 volts and below 14.5 volts. You will need a battery charge or jump start.

Mower runs new battery down then wont start again unless jumped.

Sounds like you have a problem with a regulator. Hard to tell without knowing what model of mower you own. You must remember that whatever is attached to your battery charges it while the motor is running. If the battery does not receive that needed charge, running the motor will certainly drain your battery.

When turning ignition key to start engine the flywheel only turns 1/4 around and then stops when starting motor.

From experience I would suspect a broken decompressor lever on the camshaft. A battery fails very fast when starter comes to a dead stop a few times. Try a fully charged battery but if the problem comes straight back I'd bet on the camshaft. A car battery can usually push the engine over the excess compression. If it is the decompressor engine has to be taken apart.

I have a 26 hp. twin craftsman gt5000, battery was dead, so I jumped it ,and it started up, ran fine. Mower deck kept shutting off when I was trying to mow,so i figured battery is toast and will not...

Hi, new battery sounds faulty, try jumping it again and if it starts ok its the battery, if not the solenoid may be faulty. Hope this helps, regards Phil.

Motor won't start and mower very difficult to push

is there a puddle of oil under where it made the clunking sound, that would mean the engine is blown. another thing to check is to see if the motor bolts that hold down the motor came loose and is hanging down there by keeping the pullys from moving right..good luck

I have an RZT50 Cub Cadet Mower that only starts with jump

it sounds like the starter motor is pulling to many amps for the battery to cope with. if its a 12v system it should not pull the battery down to less than 8.5 volts on cranking if it does the starter-motor is defective you can check this with a volt meeter across the battery terminals and see what it read as you crank the engine. hope this helps
