Question about Avanti ER2001G Kitchen Range

1 Answer

This is a brand new range and the elements do not get red. Uncovered water will not boil and covered water takes nearly an hour on high. The oven does not get hot enough either. I just moved into this apartment and all the appliances are brand new including this range. The landlord does not have the papers for this range. The building is fairly new and the wiring is up-to-date. Is there something that needs to be done with the settings? Is it a bad range?

Ranges/Ovens use 220-240 Volts of power instead of 110-120 for most appliances. This is because you are converting electricity to heat. And in that process, you waste a lot! Resistance is what causes the heat to build, the more resistance to the flow of electricity, the more heat is generated. I am thinking that you are not receiving the correct wattage and or amperage to this appliance. Could be a bad cord, a bad connection inside the stove, or only a small amount of voltage coming to the plug. You would need an electrician to determine if you have 220-240 volts and at least 40 amps at the outlet where the stove plugs into. Volts are the flow of electricity, and Amps are the strength, or pressure. Without the both, you have very dim lights, slow running electric motors, and inoperable appliances. If there is indeed 220-240 Volts and 30-40 Amps at the outlet where the stove plugs in, then there are problems with the wiring inside the stove, or the elements themselves. Possibly, but unlikely, it could be the control panel, but you state it's fairly new. Hmmmm, sounds like low voltage, low amperage, and time to investigate both the outlet and the stove. You need an electrician, or someone really familar with electrical. This is important. This is not a mild shock, and a tingle up the arm, if they don't know what they are about, the amperage and voltage could be deadly. Not for the untrained. Have them check the outlet for the stove, and then the stove itself. Simple checks, and you should find it very easily. And, if the outlet checks out okay, then I would return the stove to the seller, and demand a replacement, since you say it's NEW. It's gotta warranty. Let the store take care of it's problem. You got cooking to do! Hope this helps. And PLEASE, Be SAFE. Don't attempt to check this outlet if you are not qualified and expierenced with electrical matters. It can be deadly, and permanent. Like going from holding your garden hose and washing your car, to trying to control a 2" fire hose from a fire truck pushing 600 gallons of water a minute. Thats just an example, but the theory is similar. Lots more volume and lots more pressure! Only this pressure and volume can ruin the rest of your life. Be Safe. Be Aware. And Happy Cooking Soon!

How do I properly operate the Turbo Boil on my new Kenmore range?

Turboboil is a feature offered on a number of Kenmore electric ranges and cooktops. Without you model number it's hard to get into specifics - but turboboil is a special, high wattage heating element that delivers up to 3KW of energy to a specific heater on the cooktop. If I understand correctly, you would only use this setting when you wish to bring water to a boil in the shortest period of time possible - then change to a normal burner heat setting to maintain the temperature of the water in the pot.

Remember, an electric heat element is turned "full on" and "full off" as needed to maintain temperature (unlike a dimmer knob controls a light bulb). The turbo boil turns on a "double heater" to rapidly heat the water - after water reaches 212 degrees, it can not be heated any further (it turns into steam) so you should switch to a normal burner mode from that point forward.

Kenmore stove top elements incorrectly heating

This may be a serious malfunction that you cannot attempt to fix on your own. You should bring an expert to talk about this. Chances may be, you will need to buy a new oven.

All 4 stove burner coils only work partially

You should check electricity coming to the range. On the back of the range you will find small square cover which cover power cord connections. Be very careful not be shot by electricity. It should be 240V(between red and black wire) and 120V (between red and white and also black and white wire). If it is than you have a shortage or some broken wire inside the stove.

Electric Oven not getting hot enough

Sir, I think the top oelement is for broiling ONLY. It should not turn on when baking. The clicking may be the oven heating up.
How far apart were the oven temp instrument and the digital?
Don't expect them to match...they are inaccurate.

1. Heat water until it boils. Place digital therm in boiling water until it comes up to 212deg. If it is not at 212 in boiling water, record the error.(this gives a rough calibration to the digital)
2 Turn on oven, set to 350 deg, place digital therm on rack. Wait until oven reaches 350 (on stove) and read the digital. Note the difference between the two

Call avantiproducts.com sales (service didn't work) and get a replacement bake element. It was about $35 including shipping. Download the manual from the site and study the structure. Uncover the back cover using standard phillips screw. TO DO THIS, SHUT DOWN YOUR HOME BREAKER AND MAKE SURE THE OVEN OPERATION LUMP DOES NOT LIGHT. OTHERWISE YOU WILL BE EXPOSED TO HIGH VOLTAGE. Additionaly use multimeter to make sure the voltage is not there. Remove back inner cover. You can't remove this inner cover completely because of the thermostat line but try to make a work space in the lower part of the oven. The bottom element cover can be uncovered readily without any screw or pin. At this point you have access to baking element from the bottom of the oven. Loosen two nuts to remove the bad element. Reverse the procedure to install the new element.

On your oven, look in your manual and you can calibrate the oven +/- 35 degrees. If it is out of the range of calibration then replace your oven sensor or themostat which ever one you have.On your fridge I would recheck your drain hose from both ends and puor boiling hot water down drain. The only 2 reasons why you would have water on bottom of fridge is 1 a water leak or cloged drain.good luck
