Were does the small vent tube out the top of the gas tank go on a stihl 029 farm boss. mine broke off flush with the nipple and is leaking gas badly.

This is very important that the connections are correct. The fuel is pulled through the carburetor to purge all the air before starting. Air will keep the fuel pump from refilling the carburetor when attempting to run.

A filter is attached to the end of the fuel tube located in the tank. This hose is the fuel pickup and passes through a tight hole in the tank. The other tube is the return also from the carburetor and is open on the end returning inside the tank also fitting through a tight hole in the tank.

It is easy to reverse these tubes. If one has cracked it is likely all need to be replaced. Take pictures and take notes before starting.

Reversing the hoses allows for unfiltered fuel to fill the carburetor with the result of plugging the jets.

I need to look at a parts diagram for a stihl 029 farm boss. I started leaking out of the vent tube tube on the gas tank when saw is on it side. There is nothing attached to the vent.

The vent hose attaches to the white nipple coming out of the tank. This hose is about 2 inches long or so and contains two little grub scews to allow a small amount of air leakage. One can be fabricated or easily acquired from a Stihl dealer. (note, the other end doesn't attach to anything)

Gas vent hose is missing. What goes on end of replacement hose?

A lot of Stihl have a tiny tiny tiny allen headed set screw just screwed into the open end of the vent. Some have a fancy deal with many descriptions. Try a set screw ran in flush with the opening of the vent tubing. Keep it clean and venting, because an unvented tank will not allow fuel to be drawn into the cylinder.

Woodboss 028av. I removes the air filter. on the left side there is a tiny plastic tube with a tiny spring inside it. what is this for

I think you are looking at the fuel tank breather pipe. The AV just means; anti vibration. My Stihl parts list shows it as 1117 350 5800 Tank vent.(Plastic Tube) And 1120 358 8105 Vent Insert. Its basically a small plastic tube with a restrictor in it that vents the tank. Only repair it if there is gas leaking. A local shop would help or go online.

Stihl vent

Try replacing the tank vent, The vent acts as a 1 way valve allowing air into the tank to balance the atmos pressure. Does the carb also have a primer pump on it.? Sometimes faulty primer pumps can cause the tank to pressurise. You haven't stated the model otherwise i could have been a bit more accurate with the diagnosis. :)

Have a stihl hedgetrimmer, will run fine for a while, then stalls. Will only restart and run with high revs

Certain models of Stihl equipment have a vented fuel tanks, ive recently had 2 in for repair with similar symptoms, but also showed signs of fuel soaked air filter. The fuel tank vents have a delicate little valve in them which have a tendency to perish/break causing fuel to flow back up the breather pipe.

They were stored hanging on a rack with the engines down, which i done suppose helps. I'd advise to stoe flat or if hanging,'engine's up'.

Replacing the fuel vent hose on a Stihl chain saw

If it's the clear vent hose that connects to the tank on the left side, that's it. There is a brass plug inside the hose that meters outside air in the tank to regulate the pressure. The hose connects to the tank nipple, done.

Gas is leaking off the outside of the fuel tank

The little nipple on the outside of the tank is for a tank vent...there should be a small tube on it with a small vent screw in it.
