To clean the stairs what combination of tools and Vax do I use

Hi, It's Jim with Crucial Vacuum.

If you're looking to effectively clean your stairs then you're going to want to use some of your vacuums attachments. There are a wide variety of these tools, all of which can help clean your stairs and make it a bit easier than using the vacuum itself.

If your stairs are carpeted a turbo brush attachment would do just fine. If they're hardwood you could easily use a crevice tool to clean.

If you're looking for replacement tools and attachments for your vacuum we carry a large variety of them. Check us out at Crucial Vacuum we offer free shipping and an exclusive 10% coupon for Fixya.com readers, use code: FIXYA10

Dyson attachment

Dear Anon, I'm not familiar enough with the Dyson units to know exactly what the stair attachment is or what it looks like. If it is an attachment to connects to the end of the hose then it should come off the same way it went on. I usually use a twist/pull method to get these types of attachments off of the wands. If this method fails try getting something metal, very flat, that can be used to slide along the side of the wand striking the flat side of the attachment connector. This action sometimes loosens the connector enough to allow it to be removed.
If these methods don't work for you, you may have to break down and take to a vac repair shop and ask a repair tech to help you. Good luck!

How to shampoo stairs

HERE is the manual
When rating my solution rate the clarity of the explanation NOT whatever you like Kirby stair shampoo system. I do not believe this is the way to shampoo either but this is not me who designed it. Will get the job done but it is a lot of scrubbing and rubbing.

Good Luck

Shampoo stairs

There is a portable shampooer/sprayer that attaches to the hose ( the long one that makes the kirby a canister vacuum). It should have come with your attachments. Looks a bit like a gun without the tank attached to the bottom...the tank screws on.

To use it you would put the fingerguard attachment on the front of the kirby where the powerhead would normally go and the hose with the portable shampooer where the bag would go.

The tank on the portable sprayer/shampooer has lines to indicate how much water and shampoo are needed.

Be sure to put the mesh nozzle (sort of a triangular shaped thing with a piece of mesh along the front that attaches to the front of the portable sprayer) on the front of the portable sprayer if you want to shampoo..otherwise it will just spray a mist. The triangular piece with the mesh screen is what produces suds.

Vacuum the furniture/stairs thoroughly before shampooing. Cover the stairs/furniture with a thick coat of suds. Once covered with suds, pop the suds into the fabric/carpet using your hands...working the bubbles into any heavily soiled areas with a soft brush. No need to vacuum after shampooing. There is only about 10 percent water to 90 percent air in the suds.

Then let it dry. 15 minutes to and hour depending on the amount of solution used. Hope this helps!!!

Stair attachment has weak suction

Did you put the duct in for the hose? It goes in front of the tank, take out the duct (#3)that is there and put in the duct that is on the end of the hose. Is there a slit somewhere in the hose, if so you will loose suction.

Take off the brush that is on the end of the hose, then attach your stair cleaner on the end of the hose.
