Go to Youtube and look for your type of computer there, and include the words hard drive in the description. There will be several videos showing how to do it, even if your specific model isn't shown. It really is easy to do, once you've seen it done

In service test menu scroll to "3.Hard disc drive", & press enter, if test drive passed don't replace the hard disc or modification or changes. If test failed then check as shown below:
1 Switch the printer OFF. Remove the EIO Card (if installed) and re-install the Hard Disk Drive making sure it installed correctly by pushing it firmly inwards and checking that the two installation screws are completely tightened. Switch the printer ON again and repeat the Hard Disk Drive Test. If the Hard Disk Drive Test fails again then replace the Hard Disk Drive.
2 If the Hard Disk Drive Test passed after removing the EIO Card, then switch the Printer OFF and reinstall the EIO Card, making sure that the two installation screws are completely tightened.
Switch the Printer ON again and repeat the Hard Disk Drive Test. If the Hard Disk Drive Test fails, then the EIO Card could be faulty.Replace the EIO Card.
3 If the Hard Disk Drive Test continues to fail after replacing the EIO card or the Hard Disk Drive, then replace the Electronics Module..
I am having little knowledge, if I am wrong Pl don't comment, pl forgive me.

When I switch on the device I now hear a clicking sound coming from inside

A clicking noise from a hard drive indicates a faulty hard drive, it is known as the Click of Death.
If you need data off this faulty hard drive, there are companies that can recover data off faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

I switched my IDE hard drive into another computer that is a little more up to date. computer boots, passes post, shows these options " safe mode, safe mode with networking and command prompt. start...

As the Windows installation is installed on the first computer hardware configuration and now it is moved to another computer hardware configuration, ie another computer. It will not work as Microsoft prohibits moving/changing hardware configurations to the extent of another computer system.

In your case you will have to return the hard drive to your original computer and then backup your files. Then this hard drive needs to be formatted, all data will be lost. Then the hard drive can be install in the better computer and a fresh installation may be performed. However you will need to read the terms and conditions of your Windows License Agreement to see if this is indeed possible.

With regards to the DVD drive, it needs to be connected on the IDE2 port, right at the end of the IDE bus/ribbon. There are 3 positions a longer length and 2 shorter lengths.
Long side plugs into the mainboard, the middle one is left open and the shorter end one is plugged into your DVD Drive.
Ensure that the jumper located between the power and IDE port of the DVD drive is set to the Master Position. The details can be found on the label on top of the DVD drive.

Thumbs up!
Thanking you

My external hard drive does not mount. I just hear repeated sound like when the dvd/.cd is in the writing mode. please help us solve this problem

This sounds like your hard drive is about to die. Trying leaving the computer on for about 15 minutes, switch it off, wait a minute, and then switch it back on. If the clicking still carries on then you will need to take it in to a qualified technician for repairs.

Yes. It does need a power supply. I highly recommend not using this product It will work for a while and eventually not be recognized. This drive currently fried on me. If you chose to get rid of it let me know. I need the circuit board from this drive inorder to get files off my fried hard drive.

Makes clicking noise when switched on

When a hard drive makes a clicking noise and you cannot access data off this drive, then it is faulty. The only solution is to replace this hard drive.
If you need to retrieve data off this drive, then there are companies that can recover data off faulty hard drives, BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

640 GB WD element hard drive has no power

Try it on a different USB port or on a different computer - is this hard drive powered via a mains cable ? If so is that plugged in and switched on as well ?
Also does the hard drive have an on off switch at the back or on it anywhere that needs turning on ?
Does this hard drive have a firewire port or another way of connecting to it ?

I assume you have two IDE controllers? IDE1 and IDE2, I'll try to help, the primary HD needs to have the pin set to primary and the secondary set to slave, if you're running both of these drives off of the same ribbon cable. You may have to go into your BIOS settings and check to make sure the Primary HD is the WD drive.

Occasionally this is an indicator that the hard drive has failed, it recognizes the hard drive and tries to boot from it, but the hard drive continuously spins without booting. Try removing the hard drive and going into the bios. If you can get to the bios without the hard drive, then the drive has failed and needs replaced. If you still cannot get to the bios, then the problem may lie with the motherboard or a corrupt bios and will need to be checked out by a tech. Also check the memory chips, rare, but occasionally this will cause these symptoms.
