Everything checks out okay from what you suggested. What shall I look at next?

  • dabenner Sep 26, 2009

Sorry sir, I should have answered that question. I do not have the duplexer option.

  • dabenner Sep 26, 2009

I cannot get out of the error messageing mode. When I press menu it still flashes the same thing on screen.

  • dabenner Sep 26, 2009

What do you mean press on the "o" button and then enter the pass code numbers. There is not a keypad on the printer.

  • dabenner Sep 26, 2009

I have done as you instructed and have not been able to get past the error code screen.

  • dabenner Sep 26, 2009

Okay I turned on printer, but you talk about pressing and holding "power button" What is that? The 30010cn only has menu, cancel, enter, up, down, left, right buttons, besides the on off switch on side.

  • dabenner Sep 27, 2009

Okay I cannot understand what you are talking about when you talk about the RA/PH tray. The printer does not have a removable Registration cover, it swings open in the back. The paper feeds from the front and does not have a removable feeder that I can determine. Please explain yourself better and send a diagram or in some way help me to understand what you want me to do.

As often happens with DELL printers check all the paper paths and make sure there is no sign of any paper or pieces of paper. Also vacuum the paper path areas and use a soft brush to clean all the paper path sensors.

Also check the Web Config Tool to make sure evertthing is OK.

Reboot the printer.

If that does not cure the problem then reseat the fuser unit and try again.

If that fails then reset the NVRAM and reboot the printer.

Does the feed roller make a complete revolution? There are plastic guides on each side of the feed roller. When the tray lifts, does it get stopped by these guides and is not allowed to lift any further. If No, the roller does not. It looks like the guides might be stopping the tray from lifting all the way. That's the problem...... and a common mistake. The plastic guides were not re-positioned correctly when the Paper Handler/Registration Assembly was replaced. You probably see these guides pointed downward? They shouldn't. Remove the PH/RA again and tilt the plastic guides until the square cutout on each guide fits into the bottom edge of the PH/RA as you replace it...let me know how that work for you and please do not forget to rate my service so we can improve on it with your help. God bless

Before you can clear a "PAPER JAM" or "PRINTER JAM" error, you must locate where in the unit the paper is jammed.
First, unplug the machine for safety and disconnect the telephone line. Next, follow these instructions based on where the paper jam is located.

Removed paper after paper jam and have opened all the doors to check everything, however it still reads 'switchback jam open front cover up scanner unit'

  • Step 1 Turn the printer off and on to see if it can automatically clear some or all of the jam. Many printers provide an error-code listing on the front panel display for the area where the jam occurred. If your printer shows an error code, be sure and check the printer manual to see if that identifies the area of the printer where the jam occurred.
  • Step 2 Turn off the printer.
  • Step 3 Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
  • Step 4 Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
  • Step 5 If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it in a bag or away from light to avoid damaging it.
  • Step 6266_a1.jpg jQuery(document).ready(function(){ jQuery('#jsArticleStep6 span.image a:first').attr('href','http://i.ehow.com/images/ehows/steps/books/266_b1.jpg'); }); If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly (see A). The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
  • Step 7266_a2.jpg jQuery(document).ready(function(){ jQuery('#jsArticleStep7 span.image a:first').attr('href','http://i.ehow.com/images/ehows/steps/books/266_a2.jpg'); }); If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper (see B). Don't force anything, though.
  • Step 8 Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
  • Step 9 If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.

    Paper jam

    try this

    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
    3. Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
    4. Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
    5. If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
    6. If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
    7. If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
    8. Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
    9. If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
    10. see alternative if the problem is still not solved.

    alternative :
Load a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.
