Question about RCA Scenium D40W20 40" Rear Projection HDTV

Problem Unsure how to use website, and posted a question about our tv. a hdlp50w151 rca scenium. The picture was like jumbled squares for a week or two, until it warmed up it seemed. now no picture, only sound, and that goes off after 10 seconds.

This is a terrible thing to tell you, but, what you describe is called dijitizing then the light engine failed Now it gets real bad ,,, This part 261589 is about $590.00 and is on factory backorder with no ETA in site. We have been waiting for one of these at our shop now for over 5 months. RCA knows about this problem and you might want to give them a call and see if they will do anything

Hello,the color wheel has gone bad, thats what the noise is, the bearing goes bad and it won't spin fast enough for the sensors to let the set come on. You can buy them and there's a video on youtube on how to change it....tks

you should take it to a tv repair shop to look it over, they charge $50 and they will tell you want the problem is.

Sounds like your bulb poped, They are easy to change, there should be an access panel on the back, here is a link to the bulb for your model.

do you here a whining sound when you plug it up. when these units are first plug up there is a part called the color wheel that spins during boot process. if it doesnt reach speed then the lamp never fires. It is a motor and anything that moves evientally stops moving. it would have to be replace if you can get the part

Ramdon color changes

color in a dlp is controled by the color wheel.. this may be an indication of a pending color wheel failure. is the produceing a lound whining noise. this could be other problems but this is my first instinct on the symptoms given

I have an RCA Scenium HDTV DLP, Model HDLP50W151. Turned it on and went through it cycle, whining sound but the screen was gray. turned it off and then on picture and there was no whining sound....

Sounds like the Color wheel on the Light engine has failed. Its a major repair. Contact Thomson at 1-866-465-7157 to find a local authorized repair center.
