Question about Toymax Magnavox 37MF231D 37 in. LCD TV
At this time I can on my tv and only the light comes on then back off after about 15 seconds. then once its powered up again it comes on as normal. I have turned it on a few times, that I have noticed, without any signal from my cable and it turned on the first time.
This is problem with two capacitors, which stores power for certain time and releases it.
Open the cover and try to find two capacitor in the power board
1)C2074 is a 2200 uf @ 25v
2)C2081 is a 1200uf @35v
Check whether these capacitors are good and not swallon/leaky, it dead try replacing the capacitor..And if not try finding other worn capacitor, try replacing if found..
THis can be done by normal person, think you can do it
Please leave me comment, if you need furthur assistance, Else leave me feedback

here are some links to reference.
It almost certainly is your "power supply". Most likely you will want to just replace the whole board as its easier though obviously the choice is yours. This is a common issue with these tv's. I believe the whole board is about a 100$. If you need any further assistance please let me know.

The TV turns itself off and goes in standby because the protection circuit is detecting a wrong voltage, and is turning the unit off.
Try to connect the TV to a different main socket , to test.
If the TV is still turning itself off , then there is an internal fault.
Common fault that can cause shut down after few seconds are:
Faulty capacitor on PSU. A capacitor does not old charge as it should, causing an odd power draw on part of the circuit , the fault is detected after few seconds and TV turns off.
Faulty inverter board. the inverter board can fail after few seconds, often because of a faulty capacitor or a faulty oscillator on the AC side of the inverter circuit.
Faulty digital controller board.
Try first using the extension to connect to different socket. Also leave the set unplugged from main for about thirty minutes before reconnecting.
If that does not work, then the TV must be tested to find and repair the fault.
