Question about Maytag 24 in. MDBH970AWS Built-in Dishwasher

Open Question

The control panel on my Maytag MDBH970AW is unresponsive, and the latch is stuck in the "open" position (the plastic piece stays pushed in to the handle and won't come down). I've checked that the unit is getting power from the house. Last time I had this exact problem (when it was under warranty), they had to replace the control panel, the latch, and it seemed like most of the door. What should I do?

SOURCE: maytag MDBH950AWB handle/latch failed.

Replaced handle/latch unit. Killed power to the unit. Removed the inside door panel then unplugged the two switches on the latch. Removed old latch with broken handle (removing inside panel frees latch/handle). Installed new latch with handle reconnected the two switches, reinstalled inside door panel. Very simple. Note: Latches can be purchased with or without the handle. Less expensive to buy with the handle already installed on the latch.

Maytag Neptune front loader door latch won't release

rewpa, 98% chance the door latch has stuck in the locked position. Yes, follow Maytags suggestion to access the "rip cord" for the door latch... (this is the mechanical override for it) to get the door open. After it's open, run another load of wash and see if it happens again. If it does, it is the door latch assy. that's the problem. BTW, the door lock light is activated by a switch in the door latch assy. There's a "motor" in the assy... it's made of WAX! Yes, a "wax motor". Before the computer goes into spin, it sends 120V to this motor. The electricity heats the wax and it expands. As it expands, it pushes a plunger forward. This plunger trips both the door lock AND the switch. This sends the signal to the door light AND the computer saying "I'm locked! Go ahead and Spin!" When the cycle is complete, the computer drops the voltage to the wax motor. The wax cools off and contracts. This retracts the plunger... opening the door and shutting off the light. So... if this light stays on, the plunger is still extended and can be overridden using the rip cord. If this happens again, let me know and I'll step you through disassembly and replacement of the wax motor.

Tip

Maytag MMV4205 door won't stay shut.

After tearing apart my microwave, I found a little spring broke off the latches. Open the door to the microwave, pop off the plastic piece that the latches on the door go through. You will see a spring behind the latch. If the spring is not connected to the latch it won't operate properly. The spring was held onto the latch with a tiny plastic piece that broke off. An easy solution instead of buying a new latch is to heat up one side of the spring without burning yourself and melt it through the latch piece where it was originally connected then put everything back together.
Hope this helps,
Pillarair

Ge front loading washer door won't unlock

Some machines do this when the power is cut, there should be what looks like a screw heat on the front of the handle which will allow you to unlock the door and open it. If there is still water inside you will need to empty the machine first. There is usually a hatch at the bottom of the unit, open this hatch and you will find a cap to unscrew, unscrewing this cap will empty the contents of the machine onto your floor so be prepared!!!!!

Soap dispenser will not close stays open will not latch

Turn off power to the machine. Remove the inner door panel and inspect the dispenser cover latch for any broken components. If everything looks ok, check the action of the release solenoid by hand. If it is sticky or stuck closed, try removing the center pole piece and clean the solenoid interior and pole piece with a small rag or 'Q tips' with WD40. Don't otherwise lubricate the solenoid. Push the cover closed and push the solenoid pole to release the latch, then repeat the process again. If the cover will latch again, you can replace everything and try a load of dishes. Hope this helps

My door is stuck in the closed position and will not open. I can here some clicking like it is trying to unlock, what should I do?

Ironically I just had this happen. Pull the bottom panel off, remove the bottom two screws on the face plate and pull the latch release down (little white plastic Piece under the latch). This bypasses the electronic latch. To drain the washer, remove the plastic cover from the trap and the water will drain. Caution, this is very messy. Make sure you have a bucket and towels!

Door latch

The latch is fairly simple to replace. There are several screws around the inside of the door that hold the inside panel in place. You then will be able to slide the panel out of the way (it is attached by wires).

You will then be able to access the latch it is not attached by any screws, but there is a wire harness on each side of the latch. There are two clips that you need to hold out of the way and slide the black harnesses off the two pins on the latch.

Then simply replace the latch and close up the door and your problem is fixed.

Maytag Dishwasher Latch Sticks

John, I had the same problem and just disassembled by removing the dozen or so screws around the inside of the door, lifting the waterproof panel, and pulling up the latch assembly to see what was broken. In my case there were plastic pieces broken off of the latch handle and where the latch hinges on the back of the control panel-the latter piece is $50 to replace. unfortunately. Good news is the disassembly and replacement will be easy as a DYI. Sorry this is too late to help you, but maybe others will have the same problem. Bruce
