Question about Kodak EasyShare M863 Digital Camera

I can not turn on my camera. I think it has something to do with the lens because I can still look at my pictures under favorites but when I try to take a picture the lens comes out then goes back in and turns off. How do I fix this?

Hello,

This is a common issue w/ the Kodak M-series camera which Favorites can access to view pics but wont turn on or take pic.

Here are the steps:

1. Make sure you will install a new or fully charged battery/batteries into your camera.

2. Clean the battery contacts.

a. Remove the battery/batteries and the memory card from your camera, then wipe the battery contacts with a soft, clean cloth.
b. Reinstall the battery/batteries into your camera

3. Without the memory card, turn on your camera.

If issue persists, call 1.800.235.6325 for repair.

Thanks.

Make sure that you are installing a fresh/ full charge battery
Remove the battery
Clean the metal contacts on the battery using a clean cloth

Pls test with an alt. batt.
If you do not have access to a dif. battery.
Pls. take the batt out of the camera. Insert the charger into the unit from the main socket and turn the camera on. If the camera works you will need to replace the batt. If not you will need to order a No power repair.

If this is a new camera, it should still be under warranty. I suggest you contact Nikon before doing anything else to determine if the repair would be covered under warranty. Nikon also would be in a position to advise you as to what the problem might be so that in the event that the repair is not covered under warranty, you don't replace the wrong thing.

Leaving the camera on and putting it where pressure is applied on the extended lens will damage the gears driving the lens mechanism in and out. There fore the problem was due to a broken gear mechanism. You need to bring it to a service/repair shop, because there are no owner serviceable parts inside and which the service guy has.If you camera is under warranty(usually 1 year) return it under the warranty and get a replacement.

Lens stuck out

The lens has probably got something in the retraction mechanism that is stopping it retracting. This can be something as simple as sand or grit or as a result of a drop or knock. In most cases the camera will need to be stripped apart to remove the lens assy before it can be repaired. This is best left to a professional camera repair shop.

My Olympus FE-230 will not lock into picture taking mode. All other modes are operational.

Hi cwmathew.
If all the other functions are working such as the lens extends and it focuses, zoom works, Red Led stays lit ( not blinking )and you say all the menu functions are working, It's most likely, one of three things, one of which you can try to fix.

The memory may be corrupt in which case the cpu thinks the memory is full, Transfer all pics including your favorites to your photo program.
Format Xd card ,clean out your favorites( format) twice.
Remove battery ,charge it reinsert, and then go back in to setup and start all over like it's a new camera,Change date and all settings ,then reset them correctly.
Try taking a picture. if it works try again with the Xd card in just to eliminate that possibllity.
If it still wont work it's most likely one of two things,
The lens assembly is not fully extending even if it appears to be,
or the microprocessor is is thinking the lens is not ready to function. contact Olympus for a RMA if still under warranty.
If not check out the repair shops on this site, they will be more than happy to give you a repair quote,

If the repair quote exceeds 75% of buying a new camera,
Go shopping.
I hope it helps, you have a nice camera.
Regards and good luck, Paul

Kodak easyshare z760 can go to favorites and not turn on to take a picture

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

Regards
Andrea

Lens not moving

The lens mechanism is shot. Depending on the age and possible cause of the condition- has it been dropped? I would think replacing the camera is a better option than trying to get it repaired -which I think is not a likely option
