well your the man i am looking for. a have a fluke 114 true rms meter i have a 20mhz labscope that i just got finally after years of fixing car amps by the meter and exp. and i have plenty of repair tools.

i do understand how the labscope works but hven't got to use one ever so a little shaky there and need guidence.

so on the scaler boards output to lcd controller and lookig at the service manual there is a little confusion on volage for pin's. theres 32 pin and the #1 is supposed to be ground and i have a 5vdc referance there then the next 4 pins should have 5vdc ref. and they do so that first pin is not right. i have to check again but the rest that are suppose to have voltage hve it but someof the pins are the signal pins i think they are marked rxino - then a rxino+ one then there are the same rxin1"s and rxin2's and 3's then there are to for the clock sink rxclk- and+. do you have a email i could send you a copy of the service manual and you can see the pin out? and then i can retest and let you know what i have?

when i got the tv from my dad he said the picture don't play but souds works and it responds to changing channels and it is accepting th cable in because you here the voice from that channel.

so i took it home got the service manual and figurd the backlight wasn't working so thought that was the only problem. tested voltage out of the power supply and it was there to the inverter board. so got a used inverter board and now the back light works but thee is no video on the lcd witch doesn't look like it is working at all.

what do you think my next step is?

i have no clue how fst the test equipment is! how do i figure that out? i don't think we will get lockout from talking until i accept the solution. so if i don't accept the solution we will beble to go back and forth! let me know what you think! the #'s i gave you last are what were on the manual and what they should be! if you want i can retest everything and tell you exactly what the voltage it on the pins. do you want me to do that/ i actually will if a few min. here so that will be my next post!

  • michael schultz
    michael schultz Sep 27, 2009

okay well i just took another test and this test and last test were done on the dcv scale of my fluke. so all pins have voltage except 28 and 29 and the manual says they should. now on the rxin pins they are all as foloowed. all the neg rxin pins are in and around 3.3-vdc and the pos. pins are around 1.1+dcv. the rxclks are 3.9- dcv and1.2+dcv.

O scope, I know you probably want to find out indirectly if the signal is there but, how would you know the whole signal is there unless you can view it completely. The inverter is pretty major and something caused it to go out. Which probably could be traced all the way from the input through the whole system. I know a lot of people board swap, and sometimes it works usually temporarily. But, I think your going to find yourself chasing a ghost unless you get the tools to view things as a whole.

No signs of leaking capacitors or damage on the scaler board? You have required voltage. Testing for an AC signal? The fastest measurement device you have? What kind of equipment do you have? Rf looks good? Microprocessor pins logic functioning right? No burn smell? At least stronger than what you think? There going to get hot.

We will have to do this smart. I only have 20 minutes to get you the information before some other expert might click your posting which will lock me out. Their is to much here to figure out in such a short time but, I will work it. It is impossible for me to crunch that fast even though I do my own control circuitry. I'll copy your numbers before I get locked out. Something does look strange. To many grounds. It might be right, I more familiar with ti products. I just started here at fixYa so I don't know if the fact that you rate might lock's me out so don't do it just yet. Go job on getting the information, I can go a long way on it. Be a good idea if I know how fast your test equipment is, and post what you can. We can do this even if were just interfacing with free labview and a basic stamp 2 if it comes to that. In the mean time, I'll be going over your information and compare it and figuring out what it should be.I don't know how long your posting will be, and hopefully I won't be lock out tonight. Today if not lock out I'll pass information as fast as I figure it out but, usually somebody else comes and then I'm locked out. I do have all the information I need for your tv. I to will post as fast as I can.

Good job, My computer isn't slow but only half way on complete diagram of control. The rest still downloading. Good point about pins not looking right, try look into that first.

  • Richard Klein
    Richard Klein Sep 27, 2009

Lot of pins are ground so far by diagram. Control board probably has to many pins and super small for you. Do what you can.

  • Richard Klein
    Richard Klein Sep 27, 2009

Diagram shows circuitry not chip numbers forward unless in service manual. That way I work them both together.

Ac frequencies you invert that tells me how fast it is. Yes, Even if you measure ac your just giving me the voltage and your measurement is a sum of that ac. It does give me a clue. So that's good. Ya, the others must have solved, I don't see how. But, I have been getting locked out. See other experts will be looking at our information They only have 30 min too, before it gets post to someone else then it locks them out. Just as no other expert has your 30 minutes, I can look at your posting.

  • Richard Klein
    Richard Klein Sep 27, 2009

20 mhz isn't fast but, I have a few tricks so it isn't slow either.

  • Richard Klein
    Richard Klein Sep 27, 2009

Yes, ac it is what makes it work. I don't think you'll get the clocks but, try. Everything has a ac. Rx's if possible. My email just alerted me. good. try get as good reading as you can. Be real careful. Your not the same difference of potential as your live circuit. Any loose charge and were done.

I have a sharp LC-37D40U that will not power on. The power light blinks 1 time every second. I held the input and volume - button while plugging the TV on and the TV cuts on and then cuts right back off,...

OK if you have blinking red light.

Try to open the cover then disconnect the inverter board after that try to power it on again..

If the light stays in blue (LIT) and of course you don't have picture or backlight you have faulty inverter board that need to be replace.

MY TV WENT OUT LAST NIGHT THE POWEWR LIGHT JUST FLASH AND NO PICTURE IT IS A SHARP LCD 32 '

Hello; Your model # shows that is a 30 in. set. First try unplugging both pieces and plug both back in a minute or longer (doesn't matter). If still bad, your monitor has bad inverter boards or main unit. The set has 2 or 4 of them. You must replace all. About $700.00. Sharp told me to replace all 4 , but I was able to force them to stay on, which proved they were OK. Later I took in the same model for repair. I swapped the main units ( the big board in a metal box ) and my first set started working! The Main unit is not available, but it can be sent to Sharp for repair ( about $250 - $300 ). The swap that I did proves the problem can be inverters OR the main unit. A lot to gamble with here! You may find these boards cheap on the net ( EBAY, Shop Jimmys dot com & many others. To get your part #'s go to Encompass Parts dot com and key in your model # . John

I have picture ,but no sound

Test: You might see a pic by shining a bright light against the screen. (Halogen can burn a spot if too close for too long like 15 seconds). If so, you probably have an inverter, backlight tube or coil/driver board problem. Some of these units have a bad ground on the tube driver coil board which can be shimmed and/or tightened. Sometimes a simple car light tester (continuity tester with a 12v bulb) from casing/mount ground to any of the negative (upper usually) side of the backlight driver coils will light the screen and reveal if and which tube is non functional. I leave one dome light running in such ground position one of my TVs at all times for regulation and night dimming.

I think you are talking about T-Con board (lcd controller board) mounted at top middle of lcd panel.
It is considered part of lcd panel and manuals has no details about test for signal, only way to swap it with same board.
Make sure flexible wires from lcd panel are intact or plugged properly in connectors and LVDS cable from video board is hooked in T-Con board securely.
Thanks.

i have the same issue and after removing the back and doing a voltage test on cp506 and found the 24vdc that was suppose to be there lead me to the back light inverter. a very common problem for these tv's and if you can take a voltage test of vdc then you can confirm it! one problem the manufacture does not sell it seperate from the lcd panel so it is very expencive and to find them use they are hard to find because of them being a common problem! good luck and if you need help taking the voltage test let me know!
