Sounds like u need to go into CMOS (System Setup) upon boot & make sure that the HARD DRIVE is the FIRST item in the BOOT ORDER and NOT your CD DRIVE. Also, make sure your Hard Drive shows up in the CMOS. If it does, then note what it says about the hard drive as it boots... If it is a bad hard drive, then nothing will install to it unless it is fixed or replaced.

download divermax (www.drivermax.com) it will find all your drivers and update them for free.
before that, go int system tools, device manager and right click on your audio device, click on properties, open the driver tab and click on update, if that don't work, click on roll back driver to goto an earlier driver.

Sounds like somebody installed a hard drive password, and there is no way to get around it but to replace the hard drive and start over.

RELOAD PROBLEMS

I'm not sure why they do the things they do, but they don't seem to put all the drivers on their restore disc. Here's what you should do. Since your old hard drive is still good, purchase a usb to ide/sata cable, ide or sata depending on which your hard drive is. This will allow you to hook up your old hard drive to your computer as a slave drive. This is going to help you in two ways 1- the drivers for your machine are still on that drive and you can have the hardware wizard find them there, and 2- you can use the old drive for storage, backup, or whatever.

Determine if hard drive is bad and if so, a replacement purchase

This doesnt sound as if the Hard Drive is faulty, This actually sounds like a System File Corruption, Most Likely you will need to format your Computer and reload the OS, This can be abit tricky if you havent done this before, But its better than Throwing out a Good Hard Drive and Reloading the OS on a New one.
