HELP!

None of the CD or DVD players in my house will work appropriately. I have bought two new DVD players tried to play new DVD's in them, and they pixalize, freeze-up, and then I get a disc error...such as no disc. The very same thing is happening with my CD players. They are all different brands, so I don't feel that naming brands/model #'s will be helpful in this situation. I've tried the CD players with batteries, and without batteries plugged into the outlets. Nothing works. There has to be some kind of interference causing this problem, but I don't know what it is? I have a Gateway laptop, brand new, and the DVD player won't work on it (in the house) either? Anybody have any idea what in the heck could be causing these problems? Please help! Thank you!
