Question about Computers & Internet

When we photocopy, the first page of the copy has lines down the right side of the page. All subsequent copies don't have lines and are just fine.

The copier is a HP laserjet 4101 mfp. The print from the computer works fine - no lines. Lines are vertical on the page. Is this clear enough?

Copy streaked

Hi, If all pages have the lines, even when printed from a pc or a selftest page, most likely printhead issues.... should be a cleaning cycle in the menu, if the lines only appear on photocopies then its a scanner issue..... could be something on the scanner glass or a defective scanner..... would have thought it is a blocked jet in the printhead as its quite common with inkjets.

Sharp Al1655cs copier black smudge down center of page about as wide as a pencil

Hi

Sounds like a fusing error . If your able to wipe the toner off the page its a fuser unit problem (replace fuser unit).

Also clean the copier's paper rollers. Marks on copies will occasionally be the result of a dirty paper-rolling mechanism. Simply access these rollers (your photocopier will likely have a plaque or series of signs indicating the locations of these areas) and wipe them off.

Clean the copier bed's glass plate. One of the most common causes of blemishes in photocopies is a dirty glass plate. In some cases a permanent mark, such as a scratch, will be present on the plate, showing up in every copy as a dark line or spot. However, most problems attributed to the glass plate can be fixed by wiping the plate with a soft towel and common household glass cleaner.

Clear any excess toner that has spilled or overflowed in the toner cartridge chamber. Excess toner will almost always result in blemishes on your copies. The most effective means of cleanup is to remove the toner cartridge and set it aside, thoroughly cleaning up any spilled toner in the compartment before putting the cartridge back in place.

Check for low toner levels. Low toner levels can actually contribute to unsightly lines and blotches on a photocopy. Most photocopiers will automatically indicate the need to replace an empty or low toner cartridge; while the toner is low, these models will permit continued copying. Consult your photocopier's instruction manual or key to warning lights and indicators for how to tell if the toner is low or empty.

Line down the left side of the photocopies

If this only occurs with copies (not with printed jobs), then your problem is most likely dust/dirt on the scanner (not necessarily the glass), or on the optics that feed the image to the scanner. If it's on print jobs also, it could be a simple image drum problem (they wear out over time, and frequently manifest their impending failure with vertical lines appearing down printed/copied pages.

MP780 photocopies made using ADF have a line which obscures content

I tried the other solutions listed her - and no luck. After cleaning the ADF rollers, like the manual suggested - no change.

I finally figured out why things that I coped with the ADF had lines/marks on them, but those placed directly on the platen (glass) were fine. When you copy with the ADF, the copy is not being made from the large glass area. Rather, there is a thin glass area right next to it.

Turns out, there were a couple of smudges (goo) on that thin piece of glass which were creating long vertical lines down every sheet. Cleaned the glass - problem solved!

Gosh, I hope this helps someone else save some time, and frustration.

Photocopying a book

yes, there is a button for book form.

it will either be in additional functions or duplex mode.

when copying leave book open on glass it will scan the first page then scan the other page. you can have it on two different sheets or one double sided sheet.

Good luck.

p.s.: it should be in the user manual also if you have it.
