SOURCE: i need to copy videos

You need a cable that is called by many names- Firewire, DV, IEEE 1394, and Sony call it i.Link. Many names for the same thing, but they are mostly just one type, with a small plug for the camera end and a larger one to fit the PC. The easiest way to get the right cable is to search Amazon for "canon mv700i firewire". I found a couple right away for less than $10.

Hi Ron - You just need to connect the camera to the Mac firewire port and load the Mac Imovie software which will let you load the video to your machine.

To get any of the Canon software you can download it from their website HERE

Most PCs have USB ports, but no Firewire port. Macs often have a Firewire port but may not have USB. You could fit an add-on Firewire interface card to a desktop PC, but not to a laptop.

How to transfer videos to my pc

I assume you mean videos you've recorded on the MV700i? You need a FireWire card for your PC.
http://www.firewire-1394.com/
But most computer shops will sell them. The camcorder - from memory - comes with a FireWire cable. The "small end" plugs into your camcorder - and the "big end" into your new FireWire PC port.
Then you just need Windows Movie Maker to do the job. You can download to the PC in AVI format if you wish - but for most purposes use "Other settings" -> "Video for local playback (2.1 Mbps)"

How do I hook up my CCD-TRV68 to my computer for editing?

since your camcorder is an analog unit,it's not designed for direct computer connection.connecting to the computer will have to go thru the a/v cable.either you use an analog to digital converter device (like dazzle) or install a video capture card in your computer (but if your PC has it all you need is to run the supporting software for that device and your a/v cable). editing of course is made after downloading the videos to your PC and possible with the use of a video editing software.

How do I transfer the footage I recorded to PC?

The USB cable is only to download still images recorded on the memory card, using the software that came with the camera. To download video, you need to connect to a computer with a Firewire cable, and have video editing software on your computer to communicate with the camera.

How can I transfer the video I shot to my computer?

to transfer video from your camcorder to your pc you will need a firewire cable (ieee 1394). only with this cable you will be able to transer video.
you will also need a firewire port on your pc.
if you don't have one then you can buy a firewire pci card.

LOST MY CHARGER

You can either buy one from CANON directly, which is expensive, or you can look on ebay for a generic device, which is risky (you need one with the correct voltage etc etc).

Problem capturing footage from Canon MV700 DV camcorder to Windows XP

I use Pinnacle Studio versions 9 and 10 without any problems. The software sees the camera MV700i and controlls the playback etc. Have also used Ulead Movie Factory without any problems, but its a little harder when it comes to editing the output.
