Usually a bad card in my experience - I'm too tight to buy decent cards, and quite a few have given me problems. Luckily they're quite cheap nowadays!!

You could try using a PC with card reader to format them first, and cleaning the contacts carefully.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: memory card

Because this camera only understads FAT16 formatting, it does not accept any card larger than 2GB so your best bet is to use the current crop of standard 2GB CF cards, most newer ones (usually 16X and faster) are alsa fast enough for continuous VGA video as well. The best brands IMO are Lexar and Sandisk, but avoid the WA enabled cards, this camera can't make use of WA, it just slows the througput down.

Alternatively you may partition your 8GB card to a 2GB partition, but the rest of the card won't be accessible.

Error message card not initialized. It's been formated, and new batteries installed. what is the next thing to try?

Sounds like you pulled the card out while it was still uploading images to the computer, corrupting the card. So...a.- to try to recover the photos, you'll need photo recovery software, like digital photo rescue or others available via an internet search and...
b.- you'll need to put the card into the reader after you're done and reformat in FAT (not FAT32, not NTFS) so the card will be readable again in the S2pro.

What would happen is this: people would attach the card to the computer and delete using the computer. This can create a recycle bin on the drive. The next thing is that the card might be "unmounted," in that many people will just pull the memory card out of the reader and stick it into the camera without first unmounting the card.

This leave the card in an "open" state which the S2 Pro cannot properly read. The solutions:
1.- make sure there's no recycle bin on the card;
2.- plug it into your computer, and then properly unmount the drive using the taskbar, then pull the card out of the reader after you've been told it's safe to remove the card.

Since you describe a power issue as a possible initial cause, your final option is a new memory card. Also, only format in FAT format, since that's what the S2 Pro can see; not FAT32. You might also try formatting in another camera and then the S2 Pro.

Hope helps.

My powershot sd 1000 says card is locked, but the card is not locked and it works with other cameras

format the card once with the card reader in the computer. then try if the error message comes. Also try resetting your camera to defaults.

If it's a new card, go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions. If there are pics on the card, download them first using a card reader if necessary.

Canon Legria HF200 SDHC Initialization problem

This totally sucks. I have a similar issue with my Canon Vixia HF R20 and I'm using a Lexar Pro 64Gb 133x SDXC card. When trying to initialize the card, its fails and says "Process terminated with error." It also says "check the memory card" when I first put it in. Write-protect is off. My other SanDisk class 4 SDHC card seems to work ok.
I could have sworn it worked before and I was able to transfer videos to my Mac on 10.6, but I can't remember for sure if I was using the SDXC card or just the built-in memory. Very frustrating.

It says card not initialized. What do I do?

go to the erase menu and locate the "format" command. Perform the format on the card and the card should be free of any bad data so it is now ready to use. If, after formatting, the error is still present, you may have either a card or camera problem. If this fixes your problem, please rate the answer favorably. Thanks and best of luck.
