I inherited this machine and cannot get my two speakers hooked up. I get what I would call "overdrive".
I see two rows of hookups
RB BR
RB BR
The two speakers are independent.
Thank you for your help....... DR

Thank you for helping. The entire system is composed of the AM/FM amp, TAPE DECK and CD deck. I have not connected anything but the AMP and the speakers and the antenna. I used the little wire T shaped antenna (looks like the old TV antenna wire). The two speakers I have are on the other side of the room, wiring running behind the bottom moulding on the floor, one double wire to each of the two speakers. The arrangement at the back of the AMP is as follows; br BR
BR rb
Two speaker wires from one speaker run from the connection in CAPS on the top row and the other two speaker wires run from the connection in CAPS on the bottom row.
I get the loud "driving" sounds in AM. a little less distortion from FM, both unacceptable.
I'm 80 years old and like to listen to AM radio and this problem is frustrating me to no end.
Any advice other than junking the whole mess?

YOU GOT IT!!!!
I disconnected the flat antenna and put a short piece of brazing rod on one of the two screw down attachments marked (AM Antenna) and the "driving" seemed to stop on most of the AM scale. I say most, in that it still drives in the lower range, i.e. 740, but does not drive in the 950 and up range. Do you think one of the commercial (powered) antennas would help the problem? The 740 setting (a local station) has some of my favorite programming.
You don't know how much I appreciate your help, it has improved my disposition a great deal. I should mention that the FM antenna connection is in the form of a screw type coax (female) connector.
Once again, please accept my gratitude for your patience. DR

RB BR top row is A speaker connections (from the rear)
right +- -+ left and the row below is the B speaker connections in the same manner. Check that you have not plugged your audio source device into the Phono preamp as this will definatly produce "overdrive" Only a turntable should be plugged into the Phono input, and in saying that, there are some turntables about these days that have an preamp built in line > If yous has then it should be connected to anything other than the Phono input. Any more questions, hit me back here and i will try to help you.

So long as both spekaers are connected to speaker A left and right respectively then connections should be ok. The antenna that looks like TV ribbon cable is for the FM aerial. You may notice another connection near the FM connection for AM. Connect a length of wire to the AM ANT connection for better AM performance, and let me know how it is going

great... pleased to help you. The longer vertically you can run the length of wire, the better the AM performance will be for you. Happy listening :)
