There is also a small reset button on the outside of the head next to the brush that you can push to get it to start spinning again. dont know officially why its happens, but i would think its there as a safety switch in case something gets stuck

It could be the belt or there could be a large item stuck in the brush preventing it from turning.
1. turn the vacuum off and turn upside down to see if there are any objects stuck in the brushes and remove the object, then turn the vacuum over and turn it on to see if the brush spins, also sometime string and lint and other stringy type objects get rolled around the brush and the space between the brush and the housing that the brush is inserted into, you may have to get scissors and cut these stringy things in order for the brush to spin again.
If its the belt go to the vacuum cleaner companies website and put the model number in to get the correct belt for the machine. Do your homework because some belts can be purchased at walmart/homedepot much cheaper than ordering from the vacuum company and the shipping charges are ridiculous. Those belts are very easy to put on by taking the screws out of the bottom of the vacuum lift the brush up from the housing unit and take the old belt on ,slide the new belt on and make sure all the screws are put back in and voila.
I am a housewife and i have been doing this stuff almost twenty years.

I have a Dyson Telescope vacuum. Everything works fine, except the attachment used for floors. I can feel air and suction going through the attachment, but the brush doesn't rotate or move at all....

If you have suction as you say, the tool is faulty.
They come apart so you can clean them. remove all hair and debris from the roller brush (use a coin to split it using a quarter turn on the two/three screws). Try turning the brush with your fingers. If it is stiff, it needs attention to the bearings in the tool probably. If it turns OK, then the mini turbine inside is faulty -- replace the tool.

Hi, My Kirby Ultimate G upright has very little suction. The engine sounds fine when turned on and the bag is not full at all. Suggestions?

In general, when the beater brushes on vacuum cleaners are not rotating, the debris on the carpet is not "bounced up" and into the suction area of the vacuum. With this in mind it might be a good idea to see if your beater brush or brushes are rotating freely. If they are not it could be due to the ends of the brushes being bound up where they meet the vacuum case or the belt(s) could be loose or broken. That would be the least expensive thing to start with. Please let me know if you have questions.

The bar isn't turning on my Dyson Ball vacuum. It is brand new, never has been used, turn it on and the bar doesn't turn around.

Greetings from GoVacuum,

The Dyson DC15 Ball is a two motor upright vacuum. Most other uprights use just a single motor that controls the suction on one end, and the roller brush on the other end.

The Dyson however is different. The DC15 has two motors, one dedicated to suction, the other dedicated to running the roller brush. You should first check to make sure that you in fact have turned on the lower motor for the carpet setting. There are two switches right next to each other, one is for the suction, the other for the roller brush, make sure both switches are turned to the on position.

If both are in the on posistion, and the brushes still don't come on, the machine also has a reset switch for the lower motor. This is here to help protect the belt from burning if something gets stuck in the vacuum while it's on. There is a little red reset button on the top of the roller brush housing (I believe on this model it's on the left side of the brush if you were vacuuming), try pressing this red reset switch.

If neither one of these suggestions fixes your machine, I would personally return the vacuum to where you bought it. There's no reason that it should not work right out of the box, and this may mean that the machine was damaged in shipping.

If you'd like some further help, please let me know by entering a clarification request to these suggestions, and I'd be more then happy to try and diagnosis this further with you.

Was this helpful to you? If so, please be sure to rate the repair tip as helpful, this will help me out a lot. I really appreciate it.

Bissell lift off pet-no suction through base (hose is fine)

I had a similar problem with mine. When you take the collector container out, if you reach your hand up, you will fill a round, plastic piece. Gently turn it and the piece pulls out. On the outside of the piece is a foam filter that may be plugged. There is another filter underneath the collection container in a pull-out drawer. Both filters can be washed with cool water, allowed to dry totally, then replaced. I understand that both of these filters need to be washed "frequently". It worked for me, hope it works for you.
