Question about IBM ThinkPad R40 2722 Notebook
If you are unable to boot into safe mode by tapping F8 during the IBM splash screen then you will need a windows Install disc to boot off of and fix your boot command. If you don't have a disc then try to borrow a friends, you need to boot off that disc do that you can get to the recovery console and fix your boot menu.

Try starting in safe mode i think you have to press f8 during startup and then maybe you will be able to sort your problems out.
