Viewsat Ultra USB port

When I insert Scandisk Cruzer Mini USB Drive in Viewsat Ultra

USB port , at first it saw the file and looked like it was trying to do

something. Then I noticed the light on my flash drive went out.

I tried shutting it off and on from the back , but nohing.

Can this USB port be fixed?

When I insert the Flash Dive into the Viewsat Ultra USB port , it flashed USB INTIALIZED(I think). Then I went to Receiver Upgrade clicked on USB, selected the upgrade file, the information screen popped up that it was reading the file. The light on my flash drive stayed on and the receiver was locked up. It stayed that way for 2 hours, I tried shutting it off and on from the remote but nothing. Then I powered the receiver down by the shut off switch at the back. Now when i power the unit back on nothing happens. there is 3 dashs on the receiver display screen and the remote will not either turn unit on or off.

Yes, When I attempt to load from my flash drive it locks up the USB port. Looks like the Viewsat cannot connect to the flash drive. It worked properly for months and then just quit. I now use the serial port to load the Viewsat. Works fine but is somewhat slow.

Donot put a scandisk in the USB slot thay do not work unless you reformat them first. They have a boot file on them that will not work with a lot of things including the Viewsat.

Sorry i forgot the instructions in case you needed them.

How to load any USB file automatically when "booting up" your Ultra...

A great new feature with the Ultra (since the 080404U file), is the ability to be able to load up a "boot" file from a USB stick.

(A "boot" file simply means any file that you want the Ultra to load up when you turn it on from the back switch when there is a USB stick inserted).

This should (hopefully) enable anybody to circumvent the hassles of having to connect their receiver to their computer with a cable and use a "Loader program" in order to simply load a file into their "frozen" (or otherwise "unresponsive") box.

    The basic procedure:

1: Insert your USB stick into your computer and "open up" the files folder so that you can look at your various Ultra files on your USB stick.

2: "Right click" on the file that you would like to be loaded onto your Ultra (it can be either a factory file or any other ultra "fix" file), and select Rename from the window that pops up.

3: Rename that file to PFTAUSWR.PGM and make sure that it saves it properly. (You can do this by closing your USB window and then opening it back up to ensure that the new PFTAUSWR.PGM file name is still there).

4: And, as always, before you remove any USB stick from your computer, click on the little Icon on your taskbar (at the lower right of your screen), and select "Safely Remove Hardware" before you remove your USB stick.

5: Insert your USB stick into your Ultra (which is turned off by the back switch).

6: Turn on your Ultra from the back and it will now automatically look for, and load, any file named PFTAUSWR.PGM.
(The front display on the receiver will show "uSb", then "InSt", then "End").

When your menu comes back you can confirm which file has now been loaded into the Ultra by using your remote to go to Menu>System Information>Receiver Information and check to see what file name is listed beside the Main S/W entry.

It should show the original file name you had changed to PFTAUSWR.PGM on your USB stick!

    Now how cool is that?

I lost the directions for using a micro mini

Find a USB-port on your computer.
Insert the flash-drive into the USB port.
Windows will report "found new hardware", and will assign a "drive-letter" (e.g., 'A:' is your diskette drive, 'C:' is your disk-drive, 'D:' is your CD-ROM device) to the device.

Then, use "Windows Explorer" to drag-and-drop files onto the new drive-letter (probably 'E:').

ScanDisk gives me this error when I plug it in

Sounds like your USB drive has failed. Have you tried to plug it into another machine? That would be the best bet to determine if it's the thumbdrive or if it's your computer.
Also try plugging it into another USB port.

Good luck!

Cruzer Scandisk 2.0 titanium

Hi, Not unless you are using Windows98, your PC should automatically recognize the SanDisk Cruzer Titanium as a "Removable Storage/Device". Driver is not required for Windows ME, W2k or XP. If for some reason the SanDisk Cruzer Titanium (non-U3 devices) is not recognizable, then perhaps it is not a problem with the PC but with the SanDisk. Pls try all other USB ports of your PC (front and back). The SanDisk website provides utilities/software for this kind of eventuality. They are Sansa Firmware Updater and Sansa Connect Recovery Tool. Both are available at http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/DriverDownloads.aspx. Pls be forwarned that some utilities can and will reset your SanDisk to default and any or all data can and may be deleted. Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things are or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.

Stopped working COMPLETELY!!!!

Had same problem.

I wiggled back and forth the part that goes into the USB port and the drive was recognized and I could copy my files onto my hard drive.

I had this problem with a different make USB flash drive and used the same procedure to get the files back.

I think that some connection inside the flash drive works loose after a while.

I am not going to trust these drives for files storage, but only to transfer files.
