Colored ribbons on motherboard and correct ports

Helps if you post the motherboard manufacturer name, and model number.

OR;

Post the computer manufacturer name, and model number.

This is found on the back of a Desktop PC, next to the Windows product key; or up on the side of the computer tower.

Color of the cables ('ribbons') doesn't matter.

WHAT they are does.

NOW.........I can guide you with plugging in power cables FROM the Power Supply, TO motherboard. Also the different peripherals the power cables plug into. (Harddrive, optical drive, fans, etc)

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the Main wires from the Front panel go to; is the Front Panel header.
(Power On switch, Power On LED light, Harddrive LED light, Reset switch, etc)

I MAY be able to give you a Front panel header pinout.

We will see about Front USB ports, Front Audio ports, Card Reader, etc.

I CANNOT give you the color code of the wires, coming FROM the Front Panel, TO the Front Panel header.
I CAN give you info on how to find out what each one is, though.

Post in a Comment.

Wiring diagram for on/off button on desktop

Motherboard should have the pins labeled. POW+ POW-

Colored wire is + Black is - although the power switch doesn't really matter. Same with the LEDs they can be reversed and it wont hurt anything or work differently.

Wiring motherboard to a atx tower

The motherboard manual will give you a breakdown of the cast-to-motherboard connections for the board. They differ slightly from board to board, but the connections are almost always found at the bottom front corner of the motherboard. There will be connections for the hard drive LED, the power LED, the power switch, the reset switch, and on some, the speaker (optional). The power switch and the reset switch connectors , 2-pin plugs, are not polarized, meaning that they can be connected to their pins either way without issue. The Power and HDD LED plugs are polarized, as LEDs have a positive and negative. Get this plug backward and the LED won't work. These are also 2-pin plugs. The power LED usually has a green and white wire (Green is +) and the HDD is usually red and white (Red is +) . Some motherboards have color-coded pins -- DO NOT TRUST THEM IF YOU DON'T HAVE A MANUAL -- they are not always standardized. Some motherboards have small print on the board adjacent to the pins to identify them. You CAN trust these. Otherwise, go to the Motherboard manufacturers site and get the manual for the board. The model number is on the board and can be searched for. If the manufacturer's name is not obvious, Google the model number and it will usually lead you to the manufacturer.

Installed mother to new tower case and pwr sw | hd led | reset | power led connecting to my board is the Intel dq67sw 155 matx motherboard need accurate dir to connect these please help

info found at http://downloadmirror.intel.com/19707/eng/DQ67SW_ProductGuide01_English.pdf
Front Panel Header Pin info for DQ67SW. They should be color coded too. 1 Hard disk LED + orange
2 Power LED+ green
3 Hard disk LED - orange
4 Power LED- green 5 Reset Switch - blue
6 Power switch + red
7 Reset switch + blue 8 Power switch - red
9 Power Out (do not use)
10 No pin
NOTE When connecting individual wires from your chassis front panel to the front panel header, be sure to observe the connection polarity. Positive wires are usually solid color and negative wires are usually white or striped.
There is also an alternative pin header if you have a power wire that uses a 3 pin connector instead of a 2 pin connector. It is the 3 pins just past pin 9, and it should be missing the pin in the middle of the 3 pin block. The pin closest to pin 9 is the power led + and the furthest from pin 9 is the power led -.
if you need clarification, check out page 50 of the manual posted above at intel.com

The connector and motherboard usually have a RED color/wire for positive or be marked with a + sign. If you don't have the manual for the motherboard you can get one by going to the abit site, under support or download and entering your model number.

Case wiring

For the wires that comes in your CPU casing, mostly used for your front panels like power switch, hdd status, power led, etc. It is indicated on the pins itself so you might not be confused. there are some that comes for front panel USB. (with codes like vcc+ /- ,etc.). The best you can do is to read your Mainboard manual on where you place this pins.

Computer will not turn on

May sound strange, but is the power supply switch in the correct position?
If the button is pressed, makes your continuity test, and not even the fans come on, check that the switch jumper has not come loose from the motherboard, and finally, if the motherboard is plugged in and no fan comes on when you push the power button, there may be chipset damage from an electrical surge or overheating.
In this case, a new mobo is your only option.
