To eliminate the cd drive, you may need to try another drive on your laptop. if it still gives you problem, then you may need to scan your computer for virus

My computer is unable to boot in any of the options, what do i do?

Booting problems with your laptop occur when the computer gets infected by a virus or when there are underlying hardware problems. You can use several troubleshooting techniques before taking the laptop to a service center for repair.

1. Turn on the laptop without pressing the power button too long, to prevent it from turning on and then turning off. Also make sure that the laptop has enough battery power to boot up.

2. Unplug any external drives connected to the computer. These include flash drives, external hard drives or any CD or DVD in the optical drive. Listen closely as you boot the computer. If the laptop is emitting ticking sounds and refuses to boot up at all, the hard drive or another internal component may be damaged. Consider bringing your laptop to a service center.

3. Turn on your computer and boot to "Safe Mode" or "Last known good configuration" if the computer powers on but displays an error before it boots the operating system. If this is the case, the laptop may be infected with a virus.

4. Use the "System Restore" feature in Windows to restore the operating system to an earlier time. Note, however, that this will not work for those whose computers have the "System Restore" feature disabled. Click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories," "System Tools," and then "System Restore." When the dialog box appears, click on the box for "Restore my computer to an earlier time," and then "Next." Select the restore point that you want and follow further instructions.

5. Resolve a "blue screen" problem. This error screen appears before booting, and is caused by several factors such as virus infection or hardware failure. Read the error message to determine what factor caused the problem. The error message should include troubleshooting tips.

6. Consider repairing the operating system if the computer does not boot at all. This procedure will repair the operating system without erasing your data and settings. Access the Resource list for instructions on how to repair Windows.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you for using fixya.

I have HP nx7300 laptop, and from few days my keys, ie.,'3', 'e' d', 'c' are not working. Kindly help me, it may be passible tht my laptop id virus infected as i was not using...

It could be a problem with Hardware. I dont think Virus is a option but to be sure download Ubuntu and run in live cd mode (do not install)
you can also download other live cds like http://www.livecdlist.com/damn-small-linux you just have to burn it and run from cd on boot
then try to check if the keys work there
if they work it could be a virus problem
if they dont is a hardware problem. Check ebay and get the replacement there

Unable to update microsoft, add/remove also do not have CD which came with it Think I may have a virus only using Avast anti virus

if you really think that computer is infected with virus, you will need to reinstall the OS itself just to make sure that everything will be fine, but you will need to have the OS disc for that

I think my laptop might have a virus. If I insert a disc it will not even read it and will sick it right out.

Reboot your computer in 'Safe Mode', and see if it still gets "sick".

Or, it could be a hardware-problem with your CD-drive.
Borrow a "bootable" CD-disk, e.g., Linux boot-CD or Microsoft Windows XP System Disk, and restart your computer.
Tell it _first_ to try to boot from the CD-drive.
If it does, then your hardware is OK, and you really do have a virus.
If it does not, then you have a "hardware" problem.

Unable to install file having .exe extention

Did this just happened earlier? If it did just do a System Restore. This is because some of your registries that reads your System components could be corrupted. A Virus infection could have caused it ... etc.

How to protect my system without any virus threats.....?

  • If your are not using the internet very often, Then the only source of infection is through use of infected files from CD/DVD/FLOPPY/Pen Drives. So its always a best practice to scan the media before using the files on them.
  • Also whenever you do connect to the internet, you need to update the antivirus.
  • If you have no option to connect to the internet, most anti virus providers offer patches. Which can be downloaded from a cybercafe and then updated in your system.

you can google it and download the drivers and utilities for your computer. just take a list of your hardware peripherals you would be just fine. if your running windows xp or vista, both OS have a wide range of driver database. they would be easily identified and work properly.
