After pics are on pc, you can use picasa, pictureviewer or whatever you are using to adjust picture size. The scan settings should also have a setting for size.

Hi,my name is Tommy. I have a HP J4580 All in one. How do I scan to my computer to send a picture with a email?

You need to have scan software running on a connected computer. When you press scan on the HP you have choices, scan to pc, to e-mail, to file, choose what you want and the scan software should open to scan and preview and give you choices as to scan quality type and size, If the pic is on the scanner, you just scan and either accept or delete the image.

Scanning Size

Do not try to change the scan size, change the resolution. The window that appears when you want to scan should have a resolution (DPI) area that can be changed. IE: 300 DPI to 800 DPI. This changes the picture size.

you need to resize the output because the default i think is very large which is about 1gb in size. Select the output in pixels and not in inches.

Scanning photos into computer at a large size?!

This sounds like you are trying to scan images at a larger size than they actually are?
I am not an expert-(but I have a Mac)-but from what I'm reading, scan your photos at a 300-600 dpi resolution, then use photo editing software to enlarge them. The higher the resolution, the more disk space and the more photo detail (i.e. cracks, dust, scratches, paper type) will be captured, and the more time it will take to scan. Also, for the white, does your scanner allow you to select the area/define borders during the pre-scan? Mine lets me drag borders to just the image area (but capture the image first, then do the cropping and editing to a copy later).
