Go to control panel, and then display. Check that all drivers are updated and change display settings if needed. Last possibility is a bad bulb in the screen

This is usually a probllem with a bad inverter, which provides the energy transfer to the LCD screen to make it light up. It is possible that the LCD is starting to go bad, or the cable to the monitor, but most likely it's an inverter, as it's a common culprit. You can find many "How to " articles on the Web to fix this common problem.

The screen is lit up by a fluorescent lamp and the lamp is powered by an inverter circuit.
You can open the laptop keyboard bezel and try to re-seat the screen cable.
If that doesn't work, and you are brave, then whack the screen (seriously) gently and it may start working.
Fixing it may be a bit costly...

I have a Dell Studio one desktop and monitor goes off after 2-3 seconds on startup

Wow, now that's why I don't like all in one's on anything. If one thing breaks down, you're out of all the others. OK, it sounds like your video is bad or going bad. Now if you had a regular computer it would be easy to track down the problem because all you would have to do is plug an external monitor into the computer and see if it does the same thing. I'm not sure if your all in one will allow you to attach another monitor, if it does, do it. If it does not, then you've got to suffer the consequences of an all in one and that means being without everything until the one thing is fixed.

When I turn the computor on the monitor is working okay. But as soon as I enter mt password, the monitor screen goes black but the icons are still clearly visible

the problem will mostly be a background desktop issue.change the desktop background and you should be having a normal screen again.

My labtop when i switch the power button on it comes on but the screen is completley black, cant see anything?

If the computer starting up and Windows is running properly but the screen is black (or the desktop is barely visible if you look at the screen closely), the backlight inverter circuit is probably to blame. This provides power for the display's backlight, and without the light you can't see the display even though it is working properly.

Fortunately, replacing the inverter in most laptops is pretty easy. Replacement parts and how-to information for many brands and models can be found online. Just search for "replacement inverter" for your brand and model and you should find several sources. A good place to find vendors today is eBay.

Replacing the inverter typically involves only a few steps. You remove a few screws to open the display. The inverter is usually a small board at the bottom of the display, held in by a couple of screws. Unplug a couple of cables, take out the old board. Then put the new one, reassemble the display and you should be back in business.

On the other hand, if the power light comes on when you press the button but the computer isn't starting up to Windows, there's some other issue that needs to be fixed. Connect an external monitor to your computer to verify it's really starting up (unless you are hearing the normal startup sound through the speakers). If an external monitor shows everything else is good, replace the inverter. Otherwise you'll need to see why your computer isn't starting.

Good luck on a speedy repair. Thanks for using Fixya!

Screen is dim barely can see desktop in background

Usually this is a problem with the backlight, or inverter. Most of the time the inverter is the problem which is a pretty cheap fix. If its the backlight, then you will have to replace the lcd, which is much more expensive.

Normally this is caused by the power inverter for the lcd2.gif. It is a small circuit board right below the lcd, that powers the backlight. If you take off the front bezel of the laptop you should be able to see it, it will have a 2 wire power cord coming out the one end, and another plug in2.gif on the other end with several wires.

Check ebay for a replacment but make sure you get an identical model as the one you have, as they are very specific to each laptop. The inverter will have the part number written on it.

If it is still under warranty call dell asap. Normally that is the LCD going bad or the video card, which is built in on the motherboard. Usually there is nothing a home user can do with this problem. LCD's are not too hard to change but the Motherboards can be a real bear.

Dell E152FP monitor goes black at startup, but not permanently

My bet is that your monitor is on it's way out. If this is true, it will get worse until it gets to a point where it no longer works at all. Connecting the monitor to another computer should confirm my suspicion. The monitor has probably developed a problem with some capacitors inside. The parts are not expensive, but finding a shop to do the work at all may be a challenge. If you're handy with a soldering iron you might want to have a try at it.

Compaq NX7010 Display problem

Sounds like either the LCD or the inverter to the LCD is going bad you on. After it heats up thats when the problem starts. If your laptop is under warranty I would call HP Tech Support and let them troubleshoot with you over the phone either way they will probably replace the LCD and inverter.

When your computer is starting up, hit F8 and you'll see the safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc. screen...You should see a choice that says "enable vga mode". Select that and windows will start and the os will select a screen resolution for you. After that, everything will work fine...I hope.
