New laptop now Vista Home Premium. Worked ok on XP

Now I am assuming that the laptop came with Windows XP installed and you upgraded to Vista. The reason why it is telling you that is because microsoft has installed the windows verification tool and has found your version of Vista to be possibly pirated.The upgrade disc that you used for Vista...Did you buy it or did someone give it to you? Does the disc look authentic or is it a copy? The serial number that you used to install the upgrade might be stolen. I would contact the person you obtained the disc from or contact microsoft. They will provide you with a good serial number but you may need to pay for it. Now that it has been flagged as not being genuine you will not be able to get any new updates or service packs from microsoft. And after a certain amount of time it may shut the OS down.
